What is it about Pakistani Culture..

that draws us into its realm everyday. I mean we sit across the seven seas.. yet we grow up wearing churiyaan, putting mehndi on and dressing up to the tee.. and then when we have children we give them those values that were once instilled in us. So what is it about the culture? Why do we feel like we need to make sure our children know those values even if they don’t really visit Pakistan or know what it is to know about that country?

i think the culture u r talking about is fast dying down. i think in less than a 100 years its all gonna evaporate. that time is not far off when Tariq will be Terry and he won't know whats the origin of his name...exactly what has happend to the west indians. BaKhsh became Bachchus and Baqar will become Baker. God save our off-springs from that scenario. aameen**

Suma Ameen.

If anyone knows a fig about me, they know that deep down I'm still more backwards than most natives are at the minute...

The best thing is that my culture is rich and thriving on the same steps as so many cultures before it... we that set out to destroy have ended up being the backbone of many whom now survive becuase of us... alas this world is such that even in the darkest man there is a light of life.

Re: What is it about Pakistani Culture..

i guess its fun to follow the south asian culture. plus it is unique in the world.

Re: What is it about Pakistani Culture..

I will try my best to preserve my culture in my children. We came here because our culture is rich but country is not. But deep in my heart I love my culture and I want somethings that my children do what we used to do when we were children. And at the other hand I will teach my children some of western country manners too but inside the boundaries of religion.

Re: What is it about Pakistani Culture..

^ Excellent way of thinking. :)

Re: What is it about Pakistani Culture..

not true, i think the ones that live away from it all are the ones that would hold on to their subcultures even more because as much as you try to integrate into the bigger society your skin color isn't white and you don't have blonde hair, blue eyes. that will always make you different.

plus not growing up in south asia, i ran towards anything desi, i couldn't wait until any festival so i would be able to wear the choodiya, the lengha and look totally desified so I could be with other desis. changing the names means nothing

just like italian americans act more italian than the italians in italy. they've still held on to their italian culture even if they don't have to and they blend pretty well into the melting pot they still teach their kids about italian culture.

Re: What is it about Pakistani Culture..

Re: What is it about Pakistani Culture..

Here, many many of pakis naturalized but still they prefer to wear/eat/act like Pakistani. Whenever they visit any country either to spend vacations or just visit, alway their first choic is pakistan and then second is KSA (for umrah & Hajj Purpose). No doubt they live on foreign soil but the soil smell of origin country unforgetable :jhanda:

After spended half century on foreign soil, still they prefer to watch all pakistani broadcast of TV
