What is Ijaz Butt doing in Delhi?

http://www.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/current/story/477212.html

Cricinfo says that he is in Delhi to meet Mr. Pawar, ICC chief to discuss -

  • the spot-fixing controversy
  • resumption of bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan
  • issues related to World Cup revenues

I’ve a feeling that he is there to meet his equally corrupt buddy to offer some sort of ‘give’ and ‘take’.

Re: What is Ijaz Butt doing in Delhi?

Re: What is Ijaz Butt doing in Delhi?

Oh, you don’t know Pawar. No PCB official can even come close to him, when it comes to corruption. Wikipedia has one whole section on corruption dedictaed to him.

Re: What is Ijaz Butt doing in Delhi?

??? Seems like Pawar is implying that suspension of the three players is somehow tied to the Scotland Yard Investigation and that the suspension would actually be reviewed once the investigation is over. What the hell???

If I understand correctly the ICC suspended the three players under the provisions of their Anti-Corruption Code and clearly said that the suspension has got nothing to do with Scotland Yard’s criminal investigation which is separate from ICC’s disciplinary proceedings. What happened to Haroon Logard’s statement about ICC having sufficient evidence to suspend and charge these players??

ICC has been constantly flip floppping on this issue. First they said that they won’t take any step against the players until the completion of investigation from Scotland Yar and ICC’s ASCU unit. Then two later they decided to suspend them without waiting for either investigation to be over and now this statement from ICC president!

Re: What is Ijaz Butt doing in Delhi?

Yes, I agree with you. Looks like there are two lines going on within ICC - one, led by Pawar - which is linking the fate of these players to Scotland Yard's investigation; while the other one led by Haroon is emphasizing on ICC's own anti corruption unit's investigation. I have a feeling that Pawar, being a highly corrupt man himself has sympathy for these players and is hoping to let them play on the basis of the premise that Scotland Yard's investigation can not charge these players since no 'illegal' betting took place in the 'UK' in this episode. Ijaz, for reasons best guessed, is looking to Pawar to
help' him.
