Of course we have a purpose on Earth the fabric of the previous posts are void of sincerity. They simply have no idea and state banter for a difficult question.
Our purpose is established on many levels of wisdom some of which have been disclosed to us these are:
a) Everything has been Created to Worship Him
b) Since humans are on Earth in a state of forgetfulness - our task is to remember this fact - or hence conclude this fact.
c) God Created us out of Mercy, Read Surah Rahman in the Holy Qur'an. Such that He then teaches us, and we are enabled with the ability to rememeber Him for our sakes. This is a basis upon which we conclude that we need to love Him.
d) The love of God can only be obtained accurately if we know Him.
e) Earth is the place upon which we are subject to perils and dangers of our own desires that harm us or the desires of others that harm us. Our task is to represent the law of God on Earth and attempt to maintain "Peace".
f) Our faults lead us to the need to seek forgiveness, those who get pardoned for being faultless would have no bearing on the Mercy of God, since it would not be a great pardon, but those who fault much and still receive pardon - this points to the Mercy of God.
The reason why we are the greatest form of creation is that we can create ideas, and when we fault ourselves we can seek forgiveness. Other entities cannot create ideas nor do they have the need to seek taubah like we do.
Our purpose is to Know Him through worshipping Him ... the afterlife is the token of Mercy that is received by the best of creation and for Jinn. The greatest pleasure that our souls can experience is the sight of the Glory of God and this will be given to those who are given Mercy - those who make God most beloved to them.

Re: What is God's purpose for humankind on Earth?
There are the divine obligations that arise from our spiritual nature and our relation to God. He created us and implanted in us the faculty of knowledge and foresight, besides the intuition and reason which He gaves us. He made Nature responsive to our needs and His Signs in Nature are so many lessons to us in our own inner life; He further sent Messengers and Teachers, for the guidance of our conduct in individual, social, and public life. All these gifts create corresponding obligations which we must fulfil. But in our own human and material life we undertake mutual obligations, express and implied. We make a promise; we enter into a commerical or social contract; we enter into a contract of marriage; we must faithfully fulfil all obligations in all these relationships. Our group or our State enters into a treaty; every individual in that group or State is bound to see that, as far as lies in his power, such obligations are faithfully discharged. These are tacit obligations; living in civil society, we must respect its tacit conventions unless they are morally wrong and in that case we must get out of such society. There are tacit obligations in the characters of host and guest, wayfarer or companions, employer or employed, etc., etc., which every man of Faith must discharge conscientiously. The man who deserts those who need him and goes to pray in a desert is a coward who disregards his obligations. All these obligations are inter-connected. Truth and fidelity are parts of religion in all relations of life.
