Re: What is difference between Clan and Caste

A clan may be a representation of a group of people hailing from a certain area of the land. For example, the Pathans have various clans but they’re all Pathans. They wouldn’t consider anyone less than the other in rank and or stature/power. Clans usually tend to be political than religious. The caste system however focuses much more on religion. The caste system which is used in India uses the Brahmin caste at the top because these individuals are the most religious and cleaner than other individuals, then follows the warriors then the merchants then servants and finally the untouchables. The Clans wouldn’t have a particular clan that cannot be touched, nor a different clan that has a higher rank in religion. The caste system was based on superiority rather than political prowess. If you look at the Indian culture, it tends to focus a lot of religion in their daily lives than any other aspect of their culture. Hope this answers the question. The Pakistanis have also adopted a sort of “Caste/zaat” system based on the hindu one. They place the Qureshi, Shaikh Ansari, Shah, Syed, Iraqi, Pathan, Turk, Sheikh and Malik. Now these castes have 0 merit in Islam but its still being followed.
