I’d like to know what is considered a good income for:
Bachelor
Family of 3
Family of 4
Family of 5
By good salary I mean enough to pay for healthcare, good schools, yearly vacations with family and enough to have a nice mid-size car and a Minivan for the kids, while owning your own home in the suburb.
I think there's a big jump from being a bachelor to having a family... and then the requirement difference isn't as steep. The curve sort of levels off.
I agree with the figures for 1, 2, and may be 3... but for no. 4, I'd put that at like $150K ish...
I find these figures interesting. Do most people make that kind of money? And if they dont, what are most missing out on, the healthcare, lack of good schools? Or do most people/families have two incomes and therefore these figures are fairly reasonable to attain by the average middle class family?
If you can afford to live in a decent (upper middle class) suburb, chances are the schools are pretty good. Healthcare goes with the job, most fortune 500 companies give more than sufficient coverage.
NO, the incremental cost of one more member to put your needed income to 250K is ridiculous at best.
the needed income would depend on the city… des moines, Iowa is def cheaper than the bay area or manhattan..
it also depends on what u mean by a decent life…I have seen families of 4-5 manage on $70K and I have seen families of 5 not be happy at $500K with what they want and what they can afford.
