I really do not understand what he his trying to achieve by making such comments which can only provoke further isolation from the western world and risk an attack which would in turn would lead to regime change…

…Then again maybe he thinks that Israel and the US will do nothing and by making such comments will grant him more support at home?

He is crazy and misquotes of what he says add to his craziness perception.

If you google (Example), this has been debated at a lot of places and there is ample evidence that western media takes his words out of context and often twists them. If you see from a neutral perspective, responsible people from US government have said much more harsh words for Iran’s regime.
