I really do not understand what he his trying to achieve by making such comments which can only provoke further isolation from the western world and risk an attack which would in turn would lead to regime change…
…Then again maybe he thinks that Israel and the US will do nothing and by making such comments will grant him more support at home?
His seemingly crazy rants are no different to the Isreali's who keep talking of launching pre-emptive strikes despite all the World being against them.
I think in the last 20 years Iran has coped rather well despite percieved isolation and perhaps he has good reason to believe the US and Isreal would not be so stupid as to launch an attack becuase theres a lot at stake.
For a start the USA and Isreal have broken so many International Laws that other nations might be tempted to follow the act later and come up with thier own justifications for simmilar future action. Allready China and Russia and well as Brazil have expressed very public and open support for Iran, despite Ahmedinajads speeches.... and besides this speech might be for home audiences rather than the world as a whole.
Al Quds day today perhaps he is merely stoking a fire thats been burning for a while.
You seem to think he should care what US and Israel think of him. His two worst enemies, i think he could careless about isolation from, in fact he probably see it as a blessing in disguise. Esp when it has brought it closer to The rest of the world...out there.

Do you think that Israeli comments about a possible attack are just empty threats, and that Iran has little to fear? IMO Iran is the last thorn in the side of the US from the Middle East (especially considering the situation in Syria) and that the neo-cons in particular will be seeking any excuse to remove this thorn and thus have only allies and its cronies in power in the Middle East.......

Maybe it has brought them closer to the wider world, but I am not so sure it will stop an attack on their alleged nuclear weapons installations.
Israel will not attack Iran because that would launch a counter attack by the Hizbollah & Hassan Nasrallah has already given his support to Iranin a statement a few days go &warned Israel of any attack.
Im not sure theyr'e entirley concerned about that.... But not that keeping quite and submissive would make a difference either. Ask the palestinians- west bank in particular.
I can't believe how casually people talk about an israeli attack on iran, especially in the media. As if it's just normal for one country to declare its intention of attacking another. If it was iran threatening to launch an attack, the whole world would be going crazy.

If you notice that is the effect of bias media spin before you. Israel claims iran once threatened to wipe it off the map (ameen), wether it did or not...the media /west were in uproar.
Israel threatens iran with a military attack everyday, as well as wiping palestine of the map as we speak.. and no one bats an eyelid.
You would think that was normal...only in a deranged world.
Who will be in up roar about an Israeli attack on Iran? Maybe the Russians and Chinese, certainily not Irans neighbouring Muslim countries. It is sad how Israel and the US can do what they want but that seems to be how it is now.

God will. Bar a few, Iran's 'muslim' neighbours are allies of israel. From saudi, qatar turkey to azarbaijan, nothing but hostility or indifference is expected of them. But thats not new and is certainly not keeping the iranians up at night.
If its between israel and iran, iran will win hands down. The pentagon recently acknowledged irans advancement in defence capabilities was far more advanced than they had previously thought.
Israel haven't attacked yet simply because they fear going alone. US is not willing to get involved just yet. But nentayahoo might just attack in the hope that it will drag the US into it... But every israeli intelligence, military, academics, politician think tank is repeatedly warning against it, simply because the repercussion will be too severe. Only netenyahoo and ehud barak are pig headedly conspiring for war at the moment.
A general who was an advisor to bush, advised him not to go for iran, because the repercussion would be such that the next generation will be still fighting the iranians and that too on american soil.
He is crazy and misquotes of what he says add to his craziness perception.
If you google (Example), this has been debated at a lot of places and there is ample evidence that western media takes his words out of context and often twists them. If you see from a neutral perspective, responsible people from US government have said much more harsh words for Iran’s regime.
See the difference:
Israel*‘s existence is an “insult to all humanity,” Iran’s president said Friday ….”The existence of the Zionist regime is an insult to all humanity,” Ahmadinejad said.*
He is only crazy because thats what they want you to perceive him as. See his full and unbiased interviews and he comes across as smart, open minded, genuine and articulate. Which is alot more than i can say about other leaders we have here.
What I didn't understand is how come so many countries participated in this conference in Tehran
against the wishes of the American and Israeli governments.
