My netgear went byebye all of a sudden so went and got a router which is absolute crap, so before I spike this on the driveway and get a new one, I wanted to have the resident experts tell me what is a hassle free router I should look at

Re: what is a good wireless router
I have always liked linksys
Re: what is a good wireless router
Cisco aironet 1140 series
Re: what is a good wireless router
I've had Belkin for the past 6+ years, and never had any issues. I had one go out on me after 3 years of service, and was promptly replaced with a newer model by Belkin that i'm still using.
Re: what is a good wireless router
Anything but d-link
Re: what is a good wireless router
Belkin with support of N or N+
or
Linksys with N
Re: what is a good wireless router
the router that i bought which is an absoliute piece of crud is a dlink 615, very unreliable, all kinds of issues and I dont want to have a part time job tweaking its little temper tantrums so I am allowed to be online.
my netgear lasted me 5 years without a hitch, so thinking netgear or linksys.
right now i have only been using it for laptop or iphone to connect to wifi, but may want to do more such as have a network printer and backup drive etc, but its not a deal breaker
Re: what is a good wireless router
netgear came a long way and if u like’em then get their WGR614 , I am sure that will last you a good time too..
and if u’re gonna jump on the N-band (with your needs, i dont recommend), then get their WNR2000 .
linksys alternative are WRT54G2, and for N-band, WRT120N or WRT160N .. .
after setting up about every brand of routers and going back for troubleshooting, my favourite is linksys.. it sits silently once setup right, and the day it dies is the day you feel something was there.. it doesnt produce crap like dlink 615
Re: what is a good wireless router
i been using netcomm. never had any problems
Re: what is a good wireless router
X2 bhai get an Apple Airport. It allows up to 50 devices to connect to it, gives out it's own IP addresses, and it acts as a LAN server and computers can transfer files between them and store files in the HD connected to it. It's amazing, dad just set it up and we are having fun and oh it is fast.

My linksys was pretty good ![]()

I guess you can connect up to 250 devices to any router that has DHCP or non DCHP(assigning IP)
50 devices is just may be an example. I have not much idea about Apple Airport.
and many other routers can do the same as what it does..
even like AVM routers (europe) they are having built in HD funtions to operate torrents even if PC is off.
Re: what is a good wireless router
I don't know about that but we were having a problem because DU our internet provider was just providing us with 5 IP addresses and it was not enough. So dad got Apple Airport which gives out it's own IP addresses. The issue is about IP addresses and not about how many devices can connect to the router.

read what does a router means!! :D
simply saying it distribute the internet data of one IP (WAN) to the connected devices on local IP (LAN)
so if you had 5 IP before that means that your network provider has allowed 5 different WAN IPs to be assigned to your coonection
and right now you are using only one while distributing the data of that IP on further LAN IPs.
Re: what is a good wireless router
Well its not like I am an expert at networking, I just know what Dad tells me. Whatever, but Airport rocks. You can even control, how many hours and on what days the computers can connect using the router and control/block devices and all that shabang.
Re: what is a good wireless router
i got airport extreme and am very happy, I wanted to get airport express due to music streaming which the extreme does not do, but decided to go for express because from what I read it has better range.
anyone want a piece of crap dlink 615?
Re: what is a good wireless router
I missed this thread before, but DLink is gotta be the worst piece of networking equipment around. Here's discussion from another thread:
(dartay dartay) bhai saab, I have similar problems with pretty much every Dlink I installed...
anyway, right clicking wireless network adaptor and disabling enabling sometimes works
^^ u nailed it confused...i've had similar trouble with dlink stuff...linksys works better...and by far, belkin has given me the least amount of trouble...
so - DLink = Dabba-Link :D - hey that would make for a nice SSID...

You can always extend your network by installing the express device later as a secondary access point. In my case, I'm thinking about getting the Apple TV device for the home theater and sync that with itunes through the extreme base station.
who says ppl dont notice these days =D
