Re: What is a good salary?
60 K means about 1000 dollars a week cash (after taxes), 4000 a month. NY apartments start at 1500 dollars. That will leave you with 2500 dollars per month. That should be OK for a single guy to live a decent lifestyle.

that's what i thought to.. but ..oh well ! :(
but what is a good salary for recent grad?
Re: What is a good salary?
New grad - I am assuming you mean "new undergrad with no prior work experience".
I would say your range is about right but once you have some certifications and work experience under your belt you can go up into the 90 K in couple years.
By NY - I assume you mean NYC - and the salary ranges are a bit high but what "NYC giveth it also taketh away".
It is good if you budget for costs for public transportation, parking, eating out, tips, cabs, higher health insurance etc.
It depends on your the lifestyle.

Re: What is a good salary?
if the salary is between 60-70k per month then i agree wih everything TLK just said. i live in nyc and hes pretty much right on spot though, i have friends that share 2 bedroom apts on the upper east side and each pay $1k a month so thats a bit cheaper than 1500/month for rent. rents have also gone down specially in uptown and downtown, not as much as in midtown so for 1500 the person should be able to get a decent one bedroom depending on the area in he city ofcourse. last yr me and my husband were lookign for a one bedroom on the UES, luxury building and the rent was $2700, we just looked at the same apt online about a month ago and it was for $2100. i wouldnt be surprised if rents go down even more towards the end of the yr.
u can probbaly find better deals around winter time since people are usually looking for apts during may-july since leases run out around that time usually. if the person is using the subway daily then thats anoher approximately $100 a month sicne the mta keeps raising the fare. food is pretty pricey so is grocery shopping. though u can get things cheaper if u go to queens, brooklyn etc. but wouldnt recommend that unless u have a car.
Re: What is a good salary?
also just to give u an idea of rents on the upper east side, last yr a friend of mine got a studio, it was $1450/ month and its literaly a hole in the wall. i laugh at her cuz i tell her she basically sleeps in her kitchen. so ive been telling her to look for a new place as rents have come down.
ive already told u about my other friend, she is also on the UES rents a 2 bedroom apt with another friend and they pay $1k each/month.
my brother also lives on the UES side and a 1 bedroom in that building was around $1500 last year. all three of these buildings are walk-ups. not luxury.
