What in life improves your "Religiousness" ?

**Doctor talking to a non practicing Muslim

“Son your mom can only be saved by prayers as apparently there is no way we can save her.”

On a serious note, whenever in life I come across people who have been handicapped in any way, or I have been facilitated and privileged more then them by Allah. Like good parents, relatives, colleagues, friends, money, status, good job, health,…etc. Of course I didn’t deserve it by birth to have all the facilities in the world better than a lot of people around me. So if Allah gives me more, He expects more obedience from me as compared to less privileged people.

The following statement of a scholar bothers me a lot.

**“An examiner maintains justice with lenient marking for students for whom he prepares a tough paper, and tough marking for the students for whom he prepares an easy paper”

  • p.s. This thread is not about showing oneself more religious than others. The purpose is to share good knowledge and learn from each others good ideas. No one knows who is more religious. Only Allah is the Judge.*

Re: What in life improves your "Religiousness" ?

My very existance.

^ True, our existence is enough of a reason to wonder WHY are we here and what is expected out of us ?

It has happened to me a lot of times in daily life that I am stuck in some problem whether it is related to medical, project,...etc. or some family problem, and then suddenly out of no where a person is sent (as if an angel) to solve my problems just at the time when I feel no one can solve my problem unless some miracle happens from Allah. Recently Just few hours before the submission of my thesis I found out a big error in it and by the grace of Allah I was able to correct it just before submitting it.

Allah saves our honor from disgrace a number of times through different ways, yet we only value that favor at that specific moment, and forget the next day as if Allah never did that favor to us. It is not by our words that we deny those favors but by our actions.

May Allah (s.w.t) help us in realizing that our words doesn't matter unless we show thankfulness to Allah through our actions, the best way for which is obeying the sunnah of the Prophet (saw)

One of the reasons to be thankful (religious) is that most of us are living peacefully and our sisters, mothers, wives and daughters have been lucky enough to not become a victim of the following kind:

Re: What in life improves your "Religiousness" ?

death.....

recently a wonderful (muslim) community leader passed away last week. He was a righteous man, a man loved by many...a teacher and a father to all. After he passed away I realized what a huge loss it was to the community for he touched the lives of so many people around him.

I had a realization this past week....I dont want to die without doing something for myself and those around me. When I pass away I want to be remembered just like this man was/is. i want to be remembered as a person who touched the lives of others in a positive way. I want people praying for me....asking Allah to forgive me for my sins and allowing me to enter the gates of Jannah etc. I am a nobody right now....the only people that will miss me is my family. Can I honestly say that I will be missed by others? Unfortunately NOT. I will be forgotten rather quickly....I dont want to be forgotten :(

I need to get back on the right path....quickly!

does it sound selfish...yes of course it does. But arent we all going to be selfish on the day of judgement?

I need to do something....I need to become stronger in my imaan...I am weak right now sigh

going back to your question....DEATH of a righteous person helps me become more religious for it is a reminder that I need to do more.

p.s sorry for this post....it was best suited for a blog entry...i need to start one.

**^ **Beautiful sharing. Reminded me of an incident that recently happened.

Saturday, July 12, 2008

Brother Irfan drowned at Wasaga Beach at the tender age of 20. His dingy was pushed into the deep waters by the wind. Brother Irfan, did not know how to swim neither did his friends or family who were all present at the beach. There were no life guards. We are under the impression that Brother Irfan either panicked, thought the boat would go astray or thought that he wasn't in far too deep/could walk to shore and hence jumped out of the boat into the water. He then yelled for help while his friends and family watched helplessly. Finally two individuals pulled him out and began to resusciate him but to know avail.

Brother Irfan earned the title of a Hafiz at the age of 11. He had recited the Quran 70 times, Mashallah. For the past two years, brother Irfan had been leading the Tara'weeh prayers and also lead the Fajr prayers. He was a regular teacher at our Masjid, helping children learn the Quran. A prominent, well recognized member of neighborhood, Brother Irfan was also the ideal Muslim - Mashallah.

The masjid was full of men and women on the day of his Janazah. His memorial group on Facebook has grown from 10 people to 840 people and it continues to grow. That just shows the number of people whose life he's touched. His sister posted an entry from his diary which goes like this:

[quote]
" FIVE THINGS TO REFLECT UPON...

1.) Desirous to drive large shiny cars, REMEMBER you will be driven on day as a horizontal passenger.
2.) Wild and crazy over expensive clothes, REMEMBER you will end up in just a kafn(Shroud)
3.) Recklessly sacrificing everything to construct beautiful homes and splendid mansions, REMEMBER the graveyard "pit", ones real home.
4.) Greedily devouring tasty dishes and all types extravagant delicacies, REMEMBER one day you will be the meal for ants, worms, and other insects.
5.) Aspiring for fame, fortune and bright lights, REMEMBER the awaiting darkness and loneliness."

Re: What in life improves your "Religiousness" ?

Every moment of one's life should add to the eman/religiousness , I might not be able to thank Allah for the cup of tea I am having right now, so why not thank him right now while I am enjoying it at this moment, I might not be alive the next moment to thank Allah for his bounty.

and remember these 5 things are not to discourage you from aspiring to drive shiny cars, wear expensive clothes, build big houses, enjoy good food, fame ,fortune, bright lights these 5 things are to remind you that you should strive for these things honestly and achieve all these utilizing right means , not by stepping on other people's toes or by usurping rights of others. Do not cheat or steal to achieve all of the above.
