It was not a united effort and was concentrated in certain areas like UP and parts of central India. There was no support from Bombay , madras presidency, Bengal or even the begum of Bhopal who openly supported the British. Sikhs from punjab and NWFP supported the British.

Given how powerful the East India company was already and the measures it took to prevent the riots from happening elsewhere though there a few incidences in faraway Burma, I am not sure it had a chance of succeeding to a good extent in the first place. Like I said lack of Unity was a major

That means that East India company had strong influence in other parts, even before Bahadur Shah became king.

It is rightly said that British ruled by following ‘Divide and Rule’, there were uprising before 1857’ but an organised and unified effort was never taken against British (East India Company)
