What if..

Lipstick - your a girl after my own heart!!! I luv that idea so much!!!

Mickeymouse - as you said… its easy to understand why people are vehemently opposed to having one big main event. If I had it my way… that is what I would want tho. Have as many dholkis as ppl want to throw for me, or my mom wants to have… BUT - Only one day to really celebrate my wedding. Only one day to worry about things. Only one day to spend money on (or as I should say - my parents money… i have major guilty feelings about this. Shaadi expenses are too much for parents).

Having too many events is not only a strain on the bride and groom (and their families) but I think its a strain on guests as well. Especially if you are living overseas I feel like it is so difficult to coordinate timings with relatives and luved ones schedules that so badly want to be a part of everything. Friends have to take days off from work. Airline tickets and hotel rooms have to be booked if the bride and groom are from different states (if in the US)… its just all too much. I honestly think now a days when we (desis) have so many events … it gets to be a burden on everyone in one way or another. This takes away from the celebratory happiness that should be there. The stressing should be kept to a minimal at a time like this! But instead its to a maximum!!!

So yea - if i had it my way… I would do it how Lipstick mentioned. That is such a good balance  I especially luv the idea because you still get to wear 2 different outfits!! But I have a feeling this isn’t going to happen with me because its just not “the desi way”. :frowning:

And oh yea - the extra time saved from not having so many events - i would SOooooooooooooo rather just have a longer honeymoon at some exotic location
