What if?

I’ve been thinking about this and to be honest, I’m not sure what my answer would be so I toss it to everyone out there.

What if God had given you a choice: Choice A: you have no free will but you will never go to hell. Maybe you get to stay with him and worship or be like an angel or something.

Choice B: us, now. You have free will and you run the risk of going to hell.

Would you give up freewill if you knew you would never go to hell or would you retain that knowing that there is a possibility that you could mess up bad and go to hell?

I think this is a weird question. I feel like I should be sure of how to respond but i’m not. So, any takers?

Re: What if?

it's a trick question. If you choose no free will you automatically go to hell, don't pass go, and do not collect. God doesn't want a horde of slaves.

Re: What if?

well then what are angels? I thought angels don't have free will?

Re: What if?

I've read in different places where it is said that Sahaba would sometimes say things where what they were conveying was that they would have loved to have been a blade of grass or something like that, so they they dont have the ability to be punished. Not sure if these things were Sahih that I was reading, so dont quote me.

Re: What if?

I would give up free will in a heartbeat...

Re: What if?

Sorry hell isn’t worth the trouble of choosing whether or not to eat a big mac..

Re: What if?

If we had a choice, then we’d obviously have free will…so the act of choosing either A or B can only follow assuming that we had free will in the first place.

If we were created with no free will, then this would not be an issue as we would have no compulsion, or capability, to ponder this issue.

Yet asking this question demonstrates a degree of free will (or free thought if you like), so the basic premise of the question is flawed.

Perhaps we should reconicle ourselves with the fact that if there is one thing we don’t have a choice on is the duality of our fate…

No?

Re: What if?

Yep, Umar r.a. used to wish he was a blade of grass so no account would be done of him.

Abu Bakr r.a. wished he was a bird, so he would not give account to Allah swt.

Re: What if?

I would give up freewill in a heartbeat too...

Re: What if?

nothing is worth the chance of going to hell

Re: What if?

I wonder wat idiot would choose free will over heaven....

Re: What if?

errm.. that’s borderling blasphemous.. considering Allah had angels and other beings without free will and still He created humans and jinns and allowed them free will AND made other creatures subordinate to these beings..

Something tells me having a free will is a degree much higher than being God’s personal Nodding Doll

Re: What if?

^ its not free will but how, even after being given freedom, the will has remained restricted to the boundaries set by Allah, which gives the high rank to mankind....

otherwise Quran is clear that he who follows his own personal wills (hawaa), then he is surely gone astray....

Re: What if?

Yes. I will retain that free will and do my best to distance my self from the risk of going to hell. And thats what all muslims are doing and are busy at . Thay use their free will and choose the right path so as not to go to hell.

There remains no difference between you and the animals when you give up freewill. Allah is not going to punish the animals for they can't choose right from wrong. And when you don't have freewill He will do the same with you.

Re: What if?

Um shiit i didnt mean to be blashphemous!! :bummer:

But in the question we’re talking about isnt really realistic, coz we all have freewill, to follow God’s orders or not.. but jut for the sake of argument, i think any sane person wud choose heaven over free will but waetver..

Re: What if?

See, I want to say that i'd give up freewill if there was no chance i'd go to hell cause I don't think i'm perfect by any stretch. May Allah swt forgive us all Ameen. At the same time though, I feel it's wrong to want to choose to give up freewill because isn't that one of the greatest gifts Allah (swt) gave us?
