What I seriously hate about US based Desi restaurants

Oh boy, wait till you guys visit (or maybe already have) Jackson Heights and their ‘amazing’ restaurants.. Shaheen, Roti Boti, Kabab King, all of those. They are dirty, service is TERRIBLE (last time we had to sit and wait for 40 mins just to get dessert and check even though the waiter came THREE times to take the order for dessert). Chalo, it was busy so I can let that go but at Shaheen’s, we were done eating and waiting and waiting and waiting for the check, the restaurant btw was near empty, the waitresses were either too busy talking or walking around but not tending to customers. The owner was standing nearby talking to some guy and he saw us and snapped his fingers at the waitress along with this glare and she quickly rushed to us.
Then the hygeine issue- once my cousin really wanted to go and try the buffet at Kabab King so we went and at the salad bar, desi uncles were HAND picking salad.. a few were ‘sorting’ through with fingers to find kheera, tomato, onions or jo bhi. Eeeeew. Not to mention the crowd in these restaurants (KB is better) is definitely the kind to stay away. As if the staring, winking, and all that lafangapan isn’t enough, you walk out of there and find more chichoray log sitting in their cars whistling and making cat-calls. If you go without a male, be prepared to listen to cheesy lines like, ‘hello.. number tou do’ or ‘hello.. hello.. idhar dekho zara’ or '‘whistle.. wah kia baat hai’…!

Ewww! Disgustingness ki inteha. I remember stuff like that used to happen on Devon Ave in Chicago couple of years back.

This desi club and all is not uncommon in Houston. My husband was visiting his cousins and after he came back, he was like Im NEVER going back there. He said how it’s so normal for teens to hang out in these desi clubs/lounges playing pool and watching girls ‘performing’ dances, most of the people there are either smoking or drinking or doing both. The parents basically have no control over the kids, most of them are staying out late, boys racing cars and all that. He said it’s a totally different lifestyle you’re going to see there and it’s definitely not a good one.

And I m thinking about settling in Houston. Wow!

Coming back to the topic. I think we all should stop whining & thank Allah that we at least have Desi or Zabihah halal restaurants. Not all American places are awesome either. As far as the extra charge for naan is concerned. Those naans take more time to prepare. Isn’t that what America is about? Anything man made will always be outrageously charged. Also there is no comparing naans to tortillas or khubbus. I can eat a fresh naan out of tandoor with some lassi for lunch or dinner & still be happy AND satisfied.

The Holiday Inn thing is horrible though. Can’t believe the Paki Parade organizers do that stuff. Yuck yuck yuck! Makes me wonder which ones are they?
