Thus spake: By Hafiz Muhammad Saeed
The authorities had also been told that the policy on Afghanistan would hit the Jihad in Kashmir. The government at that time was advocating that the freedom movement in Kashmir could not be declared as terror-ism and thus could not be abandoned. The President himself had been reiterating this stance off and on. But we had been advising him that following the policy was mortgaging the nation’s sovereignty with the enemy, which would squeeze him in a way that there would be no way out. He would have to retreat from every stance. We were told to be quiet for otherwise Washington would be annoyed and India would at-tack the country. We said that his decision would annoy Allah Al-mighty and we would not be able to protect anything. Avoid the wrath of Allah and do not hand over your brothers to the enemy. He had been saying that he had to protect Pakistan. We had been demanding that Allah’s command must be complied with and He Himself would protect our country and us. But, at last, we were put under restrictions and imprisoned.
But, where are we standing now? Western as well as eastern borders are highly insecure. Foreign troops are operating within the country, which is in the grip of chaos, uncertainty and disappointment. The US and allies that had been all praise for the President had now shown no confidence in him. The freedom movement has been declared as terrorism. Even the Pakistan government has been forced to say so: the authorities have called an attack of Mujahideen on an Indian army camp as an act of terrorism.
