I have read somewhere and have been told that every night our soul is taken out from us and our deeds of the previous day recorded. Then its put back in. But I haven't done any research on it, so if u r interested in this, please google (from and Islamic perspective)

There's a really good Islamic book on it. I forgot the title as I read it awhile back.
I'm sorry I cant give more details as it will raise many questions so its best to do some research on it. Very interesting stuff.

Our soul is lifted up for a short time until we wake up again. Its temporary death.
Thats why before we sleep we make this dua, its arabic version can be found but translation is :
"Oh Allah, i lay on my side with Your name and lift up with Your name, if You take my soul then grant it forgiveness, if You return it then guard it as You guard Your righteous servants."
After waking up, make this dua "Praise be to Allah, who gave us life after causing our death, and our final resurrection is to Him."
