what happens if a diabetic takes a cold and flu medication

Bought mum a cold and flu cough syrup called DAY NURSE , on the cover it doesnt say not to be used fordiabetics, however after taking it decided to check on the net, and it says not to be used if diabetic. so is this because of the suger content or what, or could this be more harmful.

probably sugar content. i'm diabetic and i'm OK with it...never caused any problems. the one i take may not have too much sugar content in it. i take Benedryl sometimes.

cough medicine shouldn't be too harmful, but next time if you can, try to find something suitable for diabetics...they have em here, i'm sure that kind is avail in UK too

I'm not sure what exactly Day Nurse is or its main ingredients but if it’s a cough syrup the main reason that diabetes would be contraindicated is most likely due to the sugar content. Other than that you should be fine. Liquids have a tendency to have a lot of sugar in them.

Its the flavored ingredients they have added in them. My mom is diabetic, and whenever she has cold/flu, I get her Robittusin Cold syrup for Diabetic. Got it from Target. Its a special line they created for diabetics. Now the last thing you want a diabetic person to deal with a cold is a high blood sugar level.
