Anyone remember them? um they were our favourite ethnic group to sympathize - damn that Saddam He gassed the Kurds… folks posted pictures of Kurds during the inexpressibly awful chemical attack in Halabja.
Haven’t heard/read much about them recently… weren’t they supposed to be given a political voice, at last ? How much “power” do they actually wield in the Iraqi cabinet as of this very moment, is anyone aware ? Are they being brought forward into the ‘democratic’ decision-making processes ? Is anyone listening to them ? Where in actuality are they? Do they have any veto powers over any new laws that are enacted by the interim authorities (aka Paul Bremer)? Do they get any actual over-riding privileges?
Let’s hope history doesn’t ignore them for the umpteenth time. Again.
Shouldn;t this be in the handover thread. Considering all Sudan threads are buried into one, what is the need for another thread dealing with handover and governance?
The Kurds have thier own agenda, and it is proceding!
Kurds regain land from Iraqi Arabs
Saddam had forced many from homes

MAKHMUR, Iraq: Thousands of ethnic Kurds are pushing into lands formerly held by Iraqi Arabs, forcing tens of thousands of them to flee to ramshackle refugee camps and transforming the demographic and political map of northern Iraq.
The Kurds are returning to lands from which they were expelled by the armies of Saddam Hussein and his predecessors in the Baath Party, who ordered thousands of Kurdish villages destroyed and sent waves of Iraqi Arabs north to fill the area with supporters.
The new movement, which began with the fall of Saddam, appears to have quickened this spring amid confusion about U.S. policy, along with political pressure by Kurdish leaders to resettle the areas formerly held by Arabs. It is happening at a moment when Kurdish officials are threatening to pull out of the national government if they cannot maintain enough autonomy.
Kurds are spread in 4 countries....Iraq,Iran,Syria & Turkey.....May be Iraqi Kurds would get a loose Federation with Iraqi Arabs, sunni & Shi'ites....
Do you know an interesting thing....Kurds are related to Baluchis in their origin...
It would be a loss if a seperate kurdistan is created right now.... out of Iraq....As that would definitely destabilize & weaken the area....It would be just like if America invades Pakistan....& tries to dismantle it ....by seperating Baluchistan or NWFP from the rest of Pakistan/Punjab...
