C'mon we have to acknowledge the fact that ' **Hindi and Urdu diverge from each other cumulatively, mostly in vocabulary, as one moves from the bazaar to the higher realms, and in their highest and therefore most artificial... forms the two languages are mutually ncomprehensible' *..........*
Waysay for BawaRchi .. ya can used the word** ' KhanSama '** as well
Watch the movie Judwaa.. which is an indian/hindu movie... in that movie the girl that plays Salman Khan's sister uses the wordbehnoi rather than jija ji... so that should make up for the pakistanis using jija rather than behnoi....
you go through life forum and every desi reference to Brother in Law is Jeeja ji ..
I have nothing against hindi words but we do have a word for BIL in our language .. why are we so reluctant to use it .
we dont call our mom and dad Mataa ji and Pitaa Ji .... we dont call our kicthen, raso'i .. we dont call Potery, kavita ..
why jija ji ?
what is wrong with Beh'noi
You said you don't mind hindi words. I don't see why then it should bother you. There are worse things Pakistanis are doing that signify a worse underlying cause. If words from a foreign language are bothersome to us, perhaps we should be bothered by the use of english words in our conversation as well. We should call our bathroom "khusalkhana", our kitchen "bawarchikhana" for that matter.
Personally, I just feel in today's day and age where our schools teach English as a second language, emphasize its importance, its only natural we end up code mixing. Similarly, with cable broadcasting hundreds of channels, many of which are Indian, its again, only natural to pick up certain catchy words in our daily speech -- Specially since modern hindi is so close to modern urdu.
I speak 6 languages and I code mix all the time. We all need to be more culturally aware and informed. The more language barriers we break, the more we would understand each other.
Peace... one person at a time.
