1. Bengalis felt discriminated economically and politically, despite them being at the forefront of Pakistani movement.

2. Elections would have made Sheikh Mujib as PM but Bhutto and West Pakistani establishment would not accept a Bengali as leader

3. India started messing and supported Mukti Bahini. Pak Army responded and human rights violations were happening all over the place.

4. Yahya Khan and Bhutto’s brilliant mind thought that instead of giving Bengalis their rights, we should attack India for its interference.

5. Without local support and thanks to India’s opportunism, we had to surrender and Bangladesh was formed.

But it is not like Mujeeb would have been the first Bengali PM of Pakistan. Bhutto and the army should have respected the peoples’ verdict
