I never quite understood why kids are given a 2-3 month long summer vacation and then a 3 week long winter vacation. And here in the US, kids get a week long spring break too.
Why would kids need a 2 month long rest? Atmost give them a 2 week vacation/year and that’s it.

I think summer vaca/spring break and all that crap is just garbage becoz we still always got assignments and work to do while we were gone. so what's the point of vacation?
College is a bit more different. professors dont assign work to do over summer vacation :D

oh hahahahahaha...you'd think.
Then you go to the professors door to meet them and find a damn paper on it that says "test first day of class - Chapters 1-4 including all the reading cited in the footnotes at the ends of the chapter".

ive never had that here. Once the semester is over, it's over. Never have any contact wit the professor after hte final whatsoever. You go to a weird school man :p

All of them. Colleges work on a semester basis, and summer is a regular semester like other semesters.

well i think all those breaks for high school and middle/elementary school kids is pointless. it gives kids toomuch freetime and parents headaches about how to keep them from getting bored, babysitting, etc. college is different. college, you need those month long breaks. and plus summer school for coll students isn’t even mandatory whereas you HAVE to go to summer school if u fail something in high school. so..yeah, we need more breaks :k:kids r too spoiled

Ok well atleast in the US, summer school for middle/high school means summer school or other activities such as Islamic/Whatever religion school, volunteer work, or just work (if you are 16+). What’s the point of summer vacations in Pakistan? I don’t recall summer school or volunteer work available for the average Pakistani student.

I'd go out on a limb here and say that the point of vacations is to get a break? Seriously, you could say what's the point of weekends? What's the point of lunch breaks?

well since most of us here are college/univ students, including me, i have to say break is good because it would be very overwhelming to continue on with assignments and deadlines for the whole year. beside, the four months that we get are way better than highschool vacation which was 2 months (a month goes so fast, its not even funny). I dont see the point of it in elementary or students under 16 since they cant work either. most end up creating trouble or sit in home bored.

I heard that its a tradition dating back to agricultural days when the Family needed the kids to help during harvest and such... Doesnt apply now, but who want a childhood filled with nothing but memories of school!
