my baby is 6months old Alhumdulillah!!
what games do you play with babies?whenever he wakes up i turn on his barney show n i get busy in household chores…
when hubby comes back from work he is too tired to play with the baby…
in short we both r too exhausted n the baby wants to play…what to do?
i dont want him to watch tv all day coz itz not good for him…i know i am doing wrong but what else i can do?any ideas?
Re: what else except for watching tv?
give him toys to play, if he has started sitting thn make him sit and place toys around him, playing gym is also good. i used to play peek a boo with my baby, she loves it n still plays
Re: what else except for watching tv?
My kid was never interested in watching TV at that age.
I had a jumperoo which she loved. And toys, preferably those with sounds and lights :)
But she usually got worried if she couldn't see me so I'd just take the jumperoo, bumbo, bouncer into the kitchen so that she could see me at all times :D
Re: what else except for watching tv?
My kid hardly watched TV at that age.And it is actually easy to keep them engaged at that age while you do house chores, rather than when they are crawling and walking.
I used to lay down a quilt for her and put her down on it with her toys and she used to babble and play for quite a while.Do you have a jumperoo or swing for him?You can put him there while you work.
My daughter used to be fascinated by toys that had mirrors in them or which had some musical sounds (she had a stuffed puppy which would sing when its tummy was pressed). You can also get those books which have plastic pages. They are also fun at that age.
You can also put him on a gym mat.It comes with a lot of attached stuff which keeps them entertained for a while.
Re: what else except for watching tv?
aww cute ideas!!!
i have a bouncer but he doesnt like to sit on it now
i lay him down in a small mattress n he watches cartoons on tv as well as playing with toys but i have to check after every 2-3minutes because he has almost started to crawl n roll....n cant sit on his own....
i have rattles n bright colored teethers for him but i think i should buy some more toys for him so that he wont watch tv!
i really hate myself for letting him watch tv for hours(at this young age)while m in kitchen....:(
Re: what else except for watching tv?
Excersaucer? Look it up. Both my kids loved it.
Re: what else except for watching tv?
please shut off the t.v
At 6 months you baby's brain is developing at a rapid speed the worse thing you can do it to turn on the t.v even for barney and friends.
Exercauser as khawa recommended are great, swings, put them in high chair and put toys or food (you can do your chore), baby gym, bouncer, read to them, nap time, water time.
Re: what else except for watching tv?
my baby was very active at 6 months she was already sitting without support and crawling here and there so i used to put her in walker also n yes i didnt switched on the tv before she turned 10 months, n thn i noticed tht she was getting addicted to it n was getting bored of her toys, so thn greaduaLLY i reduced her tv timings, n now also i have controlled tv timings not more than 4 hours in a day ( even sometimes i think 4 hours are also too much for her)

how long does it takes for cooking and kitchen work....1 hr, 2 hrs? can you schedule your chores in a way that you can spend time with your kid, talking and playing with him? how about get a play pen, buy toys and books that are stimulating for him, play nursery rhymes in the background. talk to him while you are working, respond to his babling.

[/QUOTE]
4 hours is too much. I am not judging here. Just trying to help with my personnel experience. My daughter had severe issues with delayed speech and processing. T.V was one of the factors. Let them cry, bang pots and spoon together but please limit the t.v to no more an hour a day.
I have a niece now who is 4 months old and I don't even let T.V run in the background while she's in the room.
Re: what else except for watching tv?
She is now 18 n hardly sleeps for 2 he's in day so 2 hrs in morning n 2 hrs evening I m trying to reduce it more inshahallah
Re: what else except for watching tv?
thanks guys for wonderful ideas!!!
i do cleaning n laundry in daytime n cooking in evening.....
i play with him n engage him with his toys pretty much in daytime....
but in evening it becomes quite difficult as am tking care of my friend's family too....
so i get so exhausted....he takes a nap from 8 to 10 n then he goes to sleep at 1am....so i cant remain fresh n active for him for those three hours.....i have tried to change his sleep schedule too but he cant manage to wait....
Re: what else except for watching tv?
oh n yes tv will be a NO for him now!!
Re: what else except for watching tv?
why don't you try and set a bedtime routine for him firstly so that he's sleeping at 8 instead of napping at 8? that should be your number one thing so that you're both getting good amounts of rest at the same time and you have the energy to play with him. don't let him nap at 8, keep him up until 9 and hopefully he'll be so tired he'll sleep through the night. a feeding and bath before bedtime also help them relax.
as others have said, get him toys that are interactive. soft, crinkly books were always a favourite with my kid at that age. the tv doesn't have to be on all the time; you'll see, he'll learn to engage himself and play with whatever is around him instead of always being glued to the tv. and try to bring him into whatever room you're working in- he'll watch you and you can talk to him or sing to him as you do your work.
Re: what else except for watching tv?
I agree wth SGC, I never let my baby sleep after 7 in the evening, try to set his routine first
Re: what else except for watching tv?
yeah thats right!
i am trying to set a good sleep routine.....
he got this routine in ramadan....
