What does this mean?

Hi,

I am not sure of the meaning of one of my tasks. I am not sure exactly what they mean.

I’ll give you the question and what I think they mean, and you can either confirm that my understanding was correct or explian what the question asks?

Ok:

Compare and contrast the methods and approaches of SCLC, SNCC and the Nation of Islam to improvements in the situation of black Americans in the USA in the 1950s and 1960s.

Do they mean what were the plans of the 3 groups to achieve improvements for the black people…

or…

How did they react to the improvements gained?

I am favoring 1…

Plz help.

2 - How did they react and utilized the improvements?

You reckon?

I'm confused. :(

i'd go with number one, the first explanation you posted.

What are you studying?

Modern History, with a specialization in the US.

This brings me on to my 2nd question:

Is an MA American History (Sussex) better then an MA American Studies (Kings)?

I figure KCL is 10* better then Sussex, but American Studies is a cop-out and not a real subject, whilst American History is a proper sounding course.

wow. A desi (Pakistani, i presume?) guy studying American History. If you don’t mind my asking, how did your parents react to that?

i don’t know anything about British institutions… and although you are right, American HISTORY sounds better than American STUDIES, it really for me would depend upon what they are actually teaching in the American Studies courses… i mean, content-wise, are the units more appealing to you. The name might be irrelevant; maybe they have more interesting issues in one or the other course, but the title doesn’t really do justice to it…? oh well i don’t know.

Anyways, that’s cool yaar :k: i thought you were some racist prick  :hehe: But interesting choice of studies… i respect that.

I hate to sound like a movie, but

I believe in America. America (will) make my fortune. :D

No, I am not a racist prick. I am, for all my rants on here-most of which are me being an alter ego-,a very open minded, liberal and generally likeable fellow. :)

My folks wanted me to to Computing. :hehe

The courses are similar. Kings has added snob factor, which will aid me in the job market later on in life, but I feel such a new subject as US Studies may work AGAINST me?

Should I just opt for a regular MA History and do my special project in America?
