What does 'namastai' mean???

Recently i came to know that the general meaning of the word ‘namastai’ is ‘i bow before you’. Does it mean that hindus even bow before there elders besides bowing in front of idols…really difficult to digest…Anyways i welcome Hindus here if they have anything else to say about the word ‘Namastai’ and logic behind bowing in front of every one as the word mean so!!

Peace samara khan,

Namaste, or namastai as u call it, means that I bow down in respect before U. It is a term hindus use only while greeting anyone. Bowing down before idols has nothing to do with namaste.

And the logic is respect only.

Peace.

Its namaste not namastai.

Did you watch namaste London?I didnot like the flick when i first watched it,but after watching it 2 or three times,i liked it.

Hey i know a song
"Namashkar,Kahye kya sune gey aap?
Pehle yeh kahye kahan thi aap?
Main, main kar rahi thi kisi ka intazar.
Kis ka?
Woh jis se karti hoon main pyar
Haaaye
Aur jis se karti hoon minate bar bar
Kaise?
Aise

Ting rong ting
Ek do teen char panch ....Tera karoo, hoye hoye.

Ever wondered what is that thing that you kiss when doing hajj? It’s a stone.

Every religion looks odd from outside.

Re: What does 'namastai' mean???

^ Its not the same as considering stone as God.

who is considering stone as God?

Nevermind. :-)

Good point.....Many non-muslims argue that we go on a pilgrimage to Mecca and worship the Kaba'h by circumabulating it and kissing the black stone i.e Hajr-e-aswad, so it is not less than idol worship. But let me clear it.

Kaaba is the Qibla i.e. the direction Muslims face during their prayers. It is important to note that though Muslims face the Kaaba during prayers, they do not worship the Kaaba. Muslims worship and bow to none but Allah(SAT))

It is mentioned in Surah Baqarah:
“We see the turning of thy face (for guidance) to the heavens: now shall We turn thee to a Qiblah that shall please thee. Turn then thy face in the direction of the Sacred Mosque: wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction.”
[Al-Qur’an 2:144]

So it is not idol worship. The Kaba'h represents a common direction for prayer and by circling it, Muslims feel that there is one God in the center. Muslims kiss the Kaba'h only because Muhammad(pbuh) kissed it.

According to Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, book of Hajj, chapter 56, H.No. 675.
Omar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
“I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the Prophet (pbuh) touching (and kissing) you, I would never have touched (and kissed) you”.

Further more at the time of Prophet(pbuh) people even stood on kabaa'h and gave adhaan, so please tell me which idol worshipper stands on idol that he worships??

Alhumdulillah Islam is complete religion. There is nothing to add or subtract in Islam, its complete , clear and pure religion and Muhammed(pbuh) is the last messenger. They will be no prophet or messenger after Muhammed(pbuh), and who ever says that still he gets revelations from Allah(SAT) needs to go to a psychiatrist!!!

I think you are in love with hindus, ain't u?

I didnot get your point, but still...Yes i got many good hindu neighbours, i really love them, we play together , attend each other's functions, exchange gifts, have good time together and even disscuss different religions n their believes.

i meant THAT!!!

Well, i got your point, but brother loving or respecting some one is completely different from saying 'i bow before you'!!!!

One should bow only infront of the creator who created every thing in this earth, heavens or universe!!! So if we love our elders n parents then...take care of them, take them to places of worship, listen to what they say, respect their thoughts, ideas, try to give them what they want, take care of their comfort or luxuries and every thing you can_______but not bowing in front of create!!!

Don't you think we should bow and worship in front of the one who is superior to all. Who is superior??.....the one who creates or that which is created???

Re: What does 'namastai' mean???

u forgot that in lukhnowi tehzeeb, u bow a little while saying 'Aadab' to someone!

Jitna dimag hoga utni hi baat karega na!!

It’s best to check with Hindus why they bow before the idols before assuming their intentions are any less noble than yours.

That is why we have so many Muslims bowing to the dead and asking them for favours. :)

Really? Where are they?

Ever been to a pir's mizar?

Yes few times... but I didn't see anyone praying to the dead and asking for favours.

Bowing before someone is a sign of respect. Chinese & Japanese do that as well. Even in Western cultures people take a "bow" on stage.
