What does fighting in the cause of Allah mean?

Re: What does fighting in the cause of Allah mean?

What's most telling is that calling someone shia is considered an insult. Then we wonder why shias and sunnis are killing each other in Iraq and elsewhere. The hatred of others is inherent among the extremists.

Thats What we have been saying that your personal individual thinking doesnt have any value when the clear-cut statements and views of prominent ulema are present. Simple is

Re: What does fighting in the cause of Allah mean?

What do you mean by clear cut statements when these 'ulama don't say that he was not a shia?
The very first evidence of Tabari's shi'ism is shias defending him and trying to prove that he was not a shia (lol).

Re: What does fighting in the cause of Allah mean?

Is calling a kafir considered as insult? If not than that's a very sorry state of iman. If yes, than how is that any different from the shia sunni relation?

Re: What does fighting in the cause of Allah mean?

I heard on TV that now they are talking of dividing Iraq into 3 separate countries as the civil war(shia-sunni killings) is takings its toll. North will be called "Kurdistan", oil-rich eastern part(the one closer to Iran) will be a shia nation and western part will be a sunni country... They are even talking of migrating people east-west so that no one remains in hostile land after partition. Something for us to remember on the 14th August.

Dear guppies

This thread is not about Shia/Sunni differences or their respective scholars, so please do not squeeze such debates into this one.

To repeat I am looking for opnions or narrations from history during the period of the Khulafa about fighting in the cause of Allah. How did they classify a battle as fighting in the cause of Allah. Also contrast those with modern day battles (only 20th century) that the muslims are facing and provide your bets insight as to how we can go about calling them Jihad or fighting for the cause of Allah. What is the most significant factor in determining that muslims are fighting for the cause of Allah?

We have so many stray groups now that are waging their own battles without the authority of their states or any legal grounds yet they are regarding as by some as Jihad or not by others. Those who regard them as Jihad what is your evidence and justification for them to operate against the state authority and those who say it is not Jihad please present you line of reasoning as well.

Thanks. JAK.

I agree with USResident. No matter how much the shias provoke us muslims we shouldn’t excaberate the situation by responding to their insolence.

Anyways, back on topic, heres a chapter from an important book relevant to the question being asked.
