DeoRhii [vestibule leading to the inner house] is called so because the word is derived from the Urdu word dahleez hence DeoRhii daar means the one who guards the entrance to the house [dahleez, DioRhii].

pagRii is the ‘key money’ is common in India, especially in Mumbai. my cousin got Rs 2 crores and a bedroom flat in Mumbai to vacate his house [where once malka e tarannum Noor JahaN lived]. a five star hotel is being constructed on that property which is close to the ‘chowpatty beach’.

In our village in the Potohaar area we call such a room which is at the entrance to the house a Dehdi, that is where any guests are entertained until the ladies can go back into the womens quarters. it can be a small sitting room with a Lavatory.
