So many people are being called baba! I’m surprised it’s so popular.
I like mama I think it’s cute, but what happens when the child hits their teens - it sounds awkward to say mama then, no?
I call my parents ami/abu… so does hubby. So we are leaning towards that for us, but if something better comes along I’d change!

I don’t think it’s awkward- mama is timeless! That’s what we call MIL. I suppose we don’t say Maa-maa more like Mumma, but that’s what it is.

Mama is not awkward at all…my college grad niece still calls my sister Mama

It only sounds awkward because you’re not used it. It’s not awkward at all.
It doesn’t matter how ‘old’ the kids get, they’re still bachey to their parents. So mama/mommy/ammi/whatever rocks your boat is perfectly fine.

Sara…i know a lot of parents who teach their names to the kids. I myself have been trying to connect R for Rabia for my toddler…he already knowns Abu’s name. But the ton this kid uses is just disrecpectful. It not even the name calling part i dislike…its the “listen listen listen…”
I just think if you allow this type of behavior at age 3 or 4…how will you stop them for acting like this in their teen years. Just my opinion. I remember my uncle teaching my younger brother bad words…and every time he used them everybody would laugh. Once he was older it became a habit and my mom couldnt stop him.

I encouraged them to call us mama and daddy which the older one still calls us but my daughter calls us mom and dad now.

I am Ammi and he is Baba but some times she called him Baba Jaani.

I say Mama and Papa, and I never felt awkward about calling Mama in public

Mine began calling me Mumma again. He stopped calling me anything but now calls me Mumma. Baba definitely made a comeback. It’s the only name I teach mine for his dad.
Mama and Abbu. When she is feeling cheeky it is mothee and fathee. When she wants something from us then it is Ammi jaan and Abbu jaan.

We used baba and ammi. Baba is the most common one used for dads in KP
