We’re inshAllah gonna be first time parents and wondering what we should get our kids to call us. I like ami/abba but he doesn’t like the latter.
What do your kids call you?
Son calls me ‘mamma/mum’ and my husband is ‘baba’.

Mamma and dadda, short for daddy! I can’t get her to say mum n dad, now that she is older I think mamma n dadda sounds 2 babyish but he jut won’t stop n keeps saying no ur mamma n dadda, not my mum n dad.
Abba sounds quite old!

mama/baba, when she is angry at me she calls me by my name

Baba and i still wonder how did it start in this generation, don’t recall anyone calling ban in our generation

I like mama actually it’s really cute, but yeah, when the child gets older it’s a bit weird.
One set of cousins call my khala-khaloo mummy/abu. It’s really awkward cus their eldest is in his mid-thirties and still says ‘mummy’ hahaha lol! And the first bahu also started calling her ‘mummy’ cus that’s what they did - weird lol!

Mamma and baba. I always liked baba but my dad didnt like it when I tried to call him that. He preferred Abba.

Our children call us, MaaN Jee and Abba Jan.
My youngest son just started calling me Ammi, an year or so ago…he insists, he likes it better. 
And no, we didn’t decide it… My eldest was a late speaker and would only utter MaaN, when his chachoo always refered to me as ‘mama’ in front of my son. One day hubby told him, if you have to say MaaN, say MaaN Jee… As only MaaN sounds rude.
At this point my son used to call his father, papa, again a title started by my brother in law who was living with us. But my husband didn’t like it, so we changed it to abba jan.

I tell them to call us mama/baba; but they prefer our first names…

he started with “Ummay” when he was still only 4 months old .. and then it became “mamma” but recently he’s been trying to say “mamma jaani” coz I call him mama jaani ( as in mama ki jaan ) !
With his dad he started with “dada” ( dad ) but more recently he goes “papapapapappa” as many Pa’s he can add !
I think eventually its going to be mamma jaani and papa jaani

I’ve seen that too! Don’t remember anyone calling their father baba when we were kids. It was always Abu/Papa.
I kinda like Baba though

^Most of my male cousins use baba.. it’s more commonly used in other Muslim cultures than ours nowadays though..
I use Amma and abba..

I used to be Mama but now I’m Maaammmm, and a very sweet Mami when he wants something lol. Hubby has always been Dadu. We tried to get him to say Papa but he came up with Dadu on his own and he’s sticking to it.
