If you don’t know what you want, don’t say you never had a chance.
The people who complain the loudest about never having an opportunity in life are usually the ones who always have a ready excuse for their failures. Nothing is ever their fault; they are victims of their heritage, their environment, insufficient education, or any number of other factors that they perceive as placing them at a disadvantage. If you look hard enough, you can always find reasons for not attempting something or not sticking with the job to the end. Successful people, though, are not excuse-makers. They take responsibility for their actions, they set goals, and they assume responsibility for their achievement. Where others see despair, they see hope. They approach every situation with enthusiasm, confident in the knowledge that nothing is impossible for those who have a Positive Mental Attitude.
Does this apply across the board? Is there a level playing field? Are some segments subjected to institutional discrimination? Does the jail system privstization provide more incentives to lock people up? Are the poor in inner cities enjoying same advantages as kids growing up in a district with good school system? Can the poor in Indo-Pak compete with rich kids?
So yes some reasons are valid - some start life with almost insurmountable deficits that compound with time.
I don't agree with all of that. Not everyone walks around with a positive mental attitude in order for this to be equally applied to everyone or the so called excuse makers. People DO come from different backgrounds, environments and experiences that ultimately create the foundations for the types opportunities they may have had or not had.
It's also about realizing what those opportunities are and WHEN they are presented to an individual in life in order for them to take full advantage of it. Some have to try a lot harder than others to get what they want and every persons definition of personal success isn't the same. I also think when people are faced with decisions to make, they do what they feel is best with what they have at that time, circumstances can always change.
In my opinion.
