what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

salaam dosto
ummeed hai k mizaaj-e-giraamii ba_Khair hoNge.

i, religiously, watch “News Night” with Amir Abbas on Waqt News. one of the regular guests who come analyze the day’s news is** Mr. Absar Abd-ul-'Ali**. he is a well respected, soft spoken and a thorough gentleman, who even resembles Qaa’id-e-Azam MoHammad 'Ali Jinnah.

i respect him and like his analysis but his name drew my attention.

what do you think about his name?

pehle aap ye bataiye aap Indian news channels ke talk shows nahin dekhte? just curious.

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

Is it Abdul-Ali or Abdul-Aali? How do they write it in Urdu?

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

no. never! i don't care for the Indian politics. i hate their Hindi dominated newscasts.

it's Abd ul Ali = [slave of Ali]

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

There are so many Abd ul Ali even in Arab world.

Abdul Ali - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Its not Ali , but Aali. somehow written in English as Ali

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

i think it's an OK name among Shi'a brothers while among Sunnis this name is not at all given, imo because one can be a slave [banda/Ghulam] to Allah only and NOT to any human. so, abd ul Allah [Abdullah] is very common among sunnis and even Arab Christians [Abdalla].

this prefix [Abd] is also used with Allah's other Names [Attributes] like Abdul Ha'ii, Abd ul Ghani, Abdul Quddus etc.

Abd ul AAAli is fine because Al Aali is Allah's Attribute [the most High]...

Abd ul Ali was written as Ali, NOT AAAli [Absar Abd ul Ali]

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

Do you think that Shia consider Abdul Ali (if its not Aali or variation of Aali) in the same meaning as Abdullah?

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

What about 'Abul Aala' used by a famous Muslim scholar Modudi?

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

yes, i guess so. they name their sons 'Kalb-e-Ali' so i think Abd ul Ali is OK for them. their reverence to Hazrat Ali [k.w.] is at a much higher level than Sunnis.

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

Whatever the level of respect they have for Hazrat Ali (RA), I'm 100% sure, they don't consider him equal to Allah. So, Abdul Ali is wrong usage or mispronounced term.

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

as far as i know his anme was Abul Alaa [alif, be vaao, alif, laam, ye, khaRaa alif].

Abu means father, pidar and also used as kunniyat [alias]...is liye Abul Alaa would mean sab se baRaa [sab pe bhaarii] ... lol...that's what i think...i could be wrong!

'sab pe bhaarii' reminds you of Zardari?

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

There are confusions about name and his opponents do criticise him for his name

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

i don't know if they do or do not consider Hazrat Ali [KW] to be equal to Allah for sure but saying "Yaa Ali!" is tantamount to him being omnipresent [an attribute of Allah]. as i believe one of the sects within shi'aism does consider him to be equal to Allah...i think it's one of the sects in Lebanon. i will rather not deviate from the topic at hand. i'm not saying that they do believe in Hazrat Ali [KW] to be equal to Allah...what i say is that their reverence is at a higher level so it may be ok to call someone Abdul Ali just to show utmost respect. theologically, yes! this name should not be valid.

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

equal terminology in desi society for 'Ya Ali'... Don't we say 'Amma Ji' when we are hurt or in fever. At least, I did said when I was in fever and my Amma was hundreds miles away from me. Does that mean we consider our Amma jis omni present?

Re: what do you think of the name "Absar Abd-ul-'Ali?

well, we can discuss this in another thread.

i think an adult saying "yaa Ali" with great reverence is NOT the same as a kid saying "ammi/mummy!" in distress and in pain. there is no reverence attached to the child's calling out his/her mother for help.

Khair.
