What do you think of Iran?

Re: What do you think of Iran?

And they do have that! Google NIOC and it's joint ventures IN Iran and foreign countries. A very little known/brushed under the rug fact -- When all these cries over nuclear energy started, Iran proposed for joint venture Nuclear ENERGY facilities, with foreign governments or companies on EQUAL partnership basis. If companies like BP are allowed for joint ventures in OIL & GAS fields with EVIlL Iran then why didn't they take up the offer for Nuclear Energy!

The 2nd offer Iran made --- SWAP Nuclear fuel. Means Iran would handover her fiscal material but will get Nuclear fuel rods ON SPOT. Those used rods were supposed to handed over to Russia for safe disposal. This deal was also not good enough.

3rd Iranian offer --- SWAP Nuclear fuel deal again. This time Iran asked for GUARANTEED return of processed nuclear fuel, within certain time period. This was also not good enough!

4th Iranian offer --- Handover Nuclear fuel to 3rd NEUTRAL country, and Iran would get nuclear rods once it's processed. Guess what, this was also not good enough.

The point is - there are so many misconceptions floating around about Iran's nuclear plans and Ahmednijad's views. Like every leader in world he has two faces- one to please public and other for international diplomatic platforms. We continuously hear distorted/ occasional boasting coming out from his PUBLIC face. What he is saying on diplomatic platforms is continuously get ignored (for whatever reason).

Re: What do you think of Iran?

o bhai! You and I are not diplomats. At least I am not. We (the public) must learn to speak and appreciate the truth as it is, and not as the media portrays it. Its the LEAST that we can do.

Talking of the real world: You do diplomacy with people (governments in this case) who are basically decent & are god-fearing. The day you back-off in the name diplomacy with a bully & thug like the US, might well prove to be your last day.

Re: What do you think of Iran?

Meri behen, I'm a student of international relations, I really don't have to blindly appreciate something that gets you more enemies than friends in the 'real world'.

Re: What do you think of Iran?

A few beers short of a keg.

Re: What do you think of Iran?

Iran has many internal problems like corruption and economy not doing so well and issues like high unemployment for the youth.

Externally they have issue on nuclear power which they face opposition from israel and america not surprisingly because these nations are hypocrites and always lie when it comes to negotiations and deals, take north korea example they was promised x,y and z when north korea did what was told, America did not deliver on promises so north korea went back to being belligerent state.

Back to Iran in the wars of Iraq and Afghanistan the Iranians are co-operating and helping the american military, in fact without iranian help in Iraq the americans would have been facing humiliation on the scale of veitnam.

so on one hand they appear to be America opposition and then on other they are partners so will the real Iran please stand up.

Re: What do you think of Iran?

For Pakistanis, Iran is a complex issue. As a second most populous Shia country in the world(after Iran), we do have a natural affinity with the Persians, but on the other hand we also support the groups like Jundullah with the support of Pentagon, who are BTW declared terrorist group by the U.S. state department. The Pakistanis are also concerned about some reports of agreements b/w India and Iran where the Iranian government agreeing to provide air corridor/air force bases to the Indians in case of an armed conflict b/w the India and Pakistan.
IMHO, the friction b/w Iran and Pakistan started in mid-1990's when we were busy supporting the Taliban's and the Iranians were supporting the Northern Alliance. It was from that point onwards that both countries grew apart. A gas pipeline from Iran to Pakistan would have been good for both countries economically, and could have also reduced the trust deficit we have.

Re: What do you think of Iran?

Iran seems to have done no favors for Islam. Most Iranians I have met, harbor a great deal of contempt for Islam.

I think Irans govt has accomplished nothing but driving people way from their faith.

Re: What do you think of Iran?

so far the only successful and relatively stable islamic country in the region that keeps focused on improvement and progress of the country despite various barriers and sanctions. a country with privileged culture of great literatur, history, cinema, music, art.. the place has its flaws as well but which country does not. props to iran, keep it up!
