What do you guyz think abt Aamir Sohail?

I think he’s sincere to the team but he goes overboard at times, like he did after the World Cup by dropping the likes of Saeed, Inzamam, and others. These two obviously shd have been included after a series or two, if not immediately after the World Cup. Its sad to saeed retire like that after having a prolific World Cup. Other then that, I think the young lot the selectors have assembled have done a descent job so far…

He has the same approach as a board member as he did on the field: an almost military one, in that it is very unforgiving. So even if his heart might be in the right place at times, his mind may sometimes not.

sans Saeed, I've agreed with most of the decisions he's made so far, he's always looking to rebuild and doesn't tolerate dheela-pun etc. I agree with dropping Inzi after the Cup, dropping him for a long period after poor form has always resulted in the big guy coming back stronger than before, and it's going to work again insha'Allah.

I dont think Aamir dropped Saeed. PCB Chairman is your man.

The best thing Amir Suhail did after since his entry was to drop those 8 players and start this rebuilding process.
But his treatment of young players and including Imran Nazir on popular demand was very freaky.

I like some of his decisions specially he has hit the jackpot with Mohd. Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. We all agree that Saeed wasnt treated fairly but over all so far he is okay in this new role.

so far so good. ask me again after the home series ends.

I think so too. Mr Zia has a free hand and he does whatever the hell he feels like doing. We performed miserably in the WC '03 when he was the chairman. Senior players lost their place in the squad, selection commitee was changed the whole world was turned upside down, yet Mr Zia still sits on the chair he doesnt deserve to be on.

And look at our team's performance graphy since he took over in 1999. From second best ('99 WC runner ups) to oblivion. Looking at the big picture the guy is an utter failure. I wonder if majority of the people realise this.

What I think about Amir Sohail? Well, can anyone tell me what merits him to become the chief selector of the team? afaik, he himself was quite a rebel against the management, very indisciplined and not that great a player but for him to become the man in command of our team selection is just so unjust. for gen. zia, i used to like him in his early days, not anymore. he deserves to sit out at least as much as shahid afridi.

I think he has every right to sit as the Chief selector. He is honest to the game of cricket. Even when he was a player, he never accepted any bull**** from anyone. He condemned Match fixing....
As selector, he did not drop saeed, Mr Zia was behind that. Amir took the responsibility of playing Mohd Hafeez when everybody said he was a nobody. Now Mohd Hafeez is everybody's no 1 choice for opener.

Amir is intelligent, he may have a short fuse, but its not easy being patient when Pakistan cricket is the subject. He the man !

Probably too early to judge. A fair/good player does not mean he is going to be a good selector. Selection of Imran Nazir for England is questionable. Imran Nazir is know to be weak towards spin and swing then how did Amir Sohail select him. There was an option in Saleem Elahi. If a player is playing and is scoring then why drop him. I am not a big fan of Elahi but if he has been delivering then why is age an obstacle. How old is Steve Wuagh or Hayden or Lehman or Alc Stewart?

It is not as if he was to be selected for life or the next world cup. Why cant the performance for the players be evaluated on the base recent past ?
I do understand and realize the need for grooming the youngster but it is equally important to be in the habit of winning. And as for preparing the a team for WC I think our team right now is moving towards a decapitation. The most important thing for me is that this team will not have a captain. If we are so bent upon preparing the for the world cup are we not forgetting just a minor detail. Who is going to lead the team in the WC ?

As for dropping the senior players I do not think that was his decision. I think he was assigned later on. I think it was an easy decision, after the world Cup defeat, who ever did it. People were outraged and so someone had to take the blame.

according to me he is also a bit of a showman. he wants to be in the news as much as he can. therefore i think the best statement he could make as a cheif selector was to make wholesale changes to the roster, which he did...
