If I see a man crying, it would be an anomaly since men hardly cry in public. My wife recently saw a sister crying in the masjid. When she approached her and asked to find out that the weeping sister had lost her mother. She consoled her, and later visited her.
I think that was the right thing to do. Had my wife looked the other way, she would hve never known and would have missed a golden opportunity to reach out to someone and to Allah swt.
