What do you do to prepare for Ramadan?

Before Mods move this to religion, my post is more to do with household chores.

As Ramadan fast approaches, I’ve been thinking I should give the house a good scrub down, and possibly stock up the freezer with stuff to cook for husband/others. I don’t know what to prepare really-was thinking of the usual suspects: samosas, rolls, chicken tikkas & kebabs.

What rituals do you complete around the home in preparation for Ramadan?

Are there any chores you avoid during the month which you do beforehand (is that even possible?!).

Re: What do you do to prepare for Ramadan?

Princess, why would you think mods would move your thread zaberdasti :emmy: … we are good mods :barbie:

Ramadan in an exiciting time … I usually try to stack up frozen stuff in my freezer :cb:
things like :

1- Make Keema and freeze it in little chunks
2- Make samosa’s , spring rolls etc and freeze them
3- Squeeze a few lemons , mix some salt and sugar in them and freeze them in the ice cube tray ..

@ CB, I thought the title might fit in more under religion that’s all :halo: and a lot of prep for Ramadan is religiously linked. No other reason :flowers:

What do you use the lemon cubes for?

Re: What do you do to prepare for Ramadan?

I prepare by going on hunger strike on keebabs etc for the past whole month ..cos i know i will be making up for all the lost food ..:D

Re: What do you do to prepare for Ramadan?

Thats a good trick Fbi :lifey:

Princess , the cubes are just good for lemonade or any drinks … I try to avoid fizzy drinks and tea and coffee during Ramadan …

Have a big clean in the house - we tend to get unexpected guests during ramadhan.

Stock up the freezer (make samosas/rolls and freeze them, free extra meat, make cubes of coriander/green chilli in an ice cube mould etc)

Buy lots of khajoors and plenty of mixed nuts to put in the fruit chaat.

Stock up on rice/atta/butter etc if our stocks are running low.

Re: What do you do to prepare for Ramadan?

My mother-in-law's coming from Pak to Aus for Ramadhan... gonna get her to make heaps of haleem... toast and haleem for sehri is best.. with Lassi... hmm gonna get her to make yoghurt too!

i also make dahi bari, and freeze them, soak them in warm water when you want, dollop of yoghurt, chutney (already frozen), also imli chutney i make a whole bottle of that and keep it stocked in the fridge for Ramadan.

Using lemonade cubes is a great idea, we can use them in rooh afza also, sounds real refreshing :@:

Re: What do you do to prepare for Ramadan?

I want to have a few iftar parties, so I really need to clear up the house to open up space for socializing and focus on making those successful. Since it's summer I was thinking maybe some bbq iftar parties. Plus I think since iftar is so late this year, we should plan for a small iftari (like appetizers), then namaz, and then dinner.

Other than cleaning the house I should probably start preparing egg rolls, samosas, and other freezable delights.

I'm so excited!

I’m getting really excited too :e6:
