Re: what do you calll them in english?
Yes I want to know too. Just yesterday someone made fun of me cos I didn;t know what faalsas are and thought they may be black currents :(
Re: what do you calll them in english?
they are only grown in india and pakistan and probably don't have an english name..shehtoot may be berries though
Re: what do you calll them in english?
yea i think shehtoos are called blackberries, jamun and falsay dont have any specific name in English. They are known by these same name.
Re: what do you calll them in english?
Wrong ![]()
Falsay does have a specific name in english.. it’s the Phalsa Berry ![]()
(Latin: Grewia subinaequalis)
Re: what do you calll them in english?
Jamun has several English names, including Java plum, jambul, jamun, jaman, black plum, faux pistachier, Indian blackberry, jambol, doowet and jambolan.
Its latin names include Syzygium jambolanum, Eugenia cumini and Eugenia jambolana
Re: what do you calll them in english?
*Shaking head in disappointment
:google:
Shehtoot, in English, is mulberry.
Re: what do you calll them in english?
madyyyyy ![]()
thank youuu so much..u have done a great job.
I was searching for Mulberries by googling…and it says red mulberries trees are most endangered species in Canada. There are only 200 trees of mulberries left in whole Canada
How stupid is that…khair i am definitely going to order one from states…hopefully it will survive in my backyard…its huge tree though :halo:
Re: what do you calll them in english?
Good luck growing it! How do you grow a tree? Do you literally spend years growing it from tiny sapling, or can you get one that's a man-sized bush and that has fruits already?
I always thought that it's hard to move anything but an immature tree because of their complex root systems....
Re: what do you calll them in english?
yup...you get a mature tree which will start fruiting fully in 2-3 years.
We already have peach, apple, cherry and pear trees. So far they are doing great....
unfortunately Fig and blueberry trees died :(
Re: what do you calll them in english?
Nice ! How do your home-grown fruits tastes compared to supermarket produce? My family’s house in London used to have 3 apple trees and a plum tree .. they were the sweetest tasting apples I’ve ever known. We sometimes used to make apple juice out of them too ![]()
With that many trees though… who ends up doing the raking
. Back in London, come August/September someone (
) ended up having to go out to the back garden and rake up all the leaves and fallen, rotting apples into a pile and dump them on the compost heap. I so hated those trees every August/September ![]()

Re: what do you calll them in english?
these are blackberries
shehtoot are much longer in length and thinner. They also taste different from blackberry.
Re: what do you calll them in english?
Falsays are Boysenberries.

The picture in the link above is nowhere close to boysenberries.
Re: what do you calll them in english?
I think people are confused. Falsays are not like blackberry or Boysenberries.
It more looks like blueberry…but it has seed inside it. Blueberries are not so sour.

There is a store now in Toronto that sells imported faalsay. They are usually sold out within hours on they day they arrive (the day the PIA flight arrives to Toronto, weekly).
