What do you all call your MIL/FIL? As of now, I’m using uncle/aunty. My fiance’s SIL calls them “mom and dad” but what I’ve always wondered is , girls that do that–do they just wake up the day after their wedding and start referring to their in-laws as “mother and father” even though they used to call them “aunty/uncle” 24 hours before?
Same issue with the SIL. My fiance and his sisters call her bhabi…I call his older brother (the SIL’s husband) “bhai” but I don’t know if I should call her bhabi now or wait or what. She’s 2-3 years older than me in age but older in relation, if that makes sense.
yup, you just say it right after the wedding. it seems presumptious before somehow, which sounds silly, i know, but i couldn't call them that beforehand. it felt weird.
The wife of your fiance's brother is bhabhi... irrespective of your age and her... If he is elder than your fiance... you need to respect her because of relation. Bhabhi is preferred name and you can call her now and then....
While Uncle and aunty to Ammi and Abbu... you will not calling them overnight... but saying uncle and aunty is not crime... your personal comfort level will determine the transformation from uncle aunty to ammi abbu...

yeah that's how I felt, too. I'll just avoid addressing them (which is easy because I don't really see them) by their name until the wedding. lol
I use Aunty / Uncle. Sorry, but my parents will always be my mom / dad. Unless the hubby calls my parents "mom / dad" , I'd return the same favor but it's Aunty / Uncle. My husband's siblings are younger than him, I just call them by name. And I prefer they call me by my name rather bhabi bla bla... It just seems too formal and weird. On a different note, my niece and nephews call me by first name cuz they think I am their age (a child at heart still).
I had the same dilemma! Wrote a blogpost about it if you want me to send it to you. To add to the mix, my family and inlaws have been family friends for 20+ years sooo I always called them aunty and uncle. I didn't force myself into calling them mom and dad ... I did the whole calling them nothing for a while :P lol But because I live with them, I started calling them mom and dad naturally after like a year. Do whatever feels natural! :)
