So me and my friends (4) were discussing how we call our relatives in our families. In my family all Chachu’s plus their wives are called “uncle & aunty”. The same goes for the wives of Mamus. The only relatives who are called by their “relation” (if we can say so) is our Mamu’s and Phupho. We even call my bhabhi for “Baji” instead of Bhabhi. One of my friends found that very weird. In her family they call all relatives by their “relation”.. like for instead Chachu is called Chachu and his wife Chachi, Mamu’s wife is Mami/mumani and so on.
Another issue was that another friends cousins call their mother for “baji”, now I found tht very strange. :s And the 3rd one felt that it was not right to call elder siblings as “bhai” or “baji”, they should be called by their names according to her.
So I was wondering what u guys think abt it & how do you people call ur relatives and perhaps siblings?
^^hehehehe well it really doesnt matter though the proper way is to call by their relation like chachi mami thats more appropriate but hum ajkal k bachay haina so we learn wot others r calling our khala...mamu and we call the same names for instance we call my oldest khala APA and her husband Sohail bhai and u guys cant imagine how old he is hehehehe
Well, I WOULD call them by their relation, if I ever even spoke to them or met them And I have disowned my dads sisters anyway so no “phupo” in my dictionary OK, I’m done.
We did sort of the same with my Khala’s hubby indeed. He was cousin of my mum so instead of calling him “uncle” we actually called him “mamu” ..
I think the mumaanis of yours are a bit sweet. We have a similiar situation. My older brother is only a few yrs younger than my mumanis however in our family we still call them aunties. The youngest of them did mention once that she felt it was a bit weird in the beginning, but now she is used hehe

You're right. But I still think it is weird if kids start calling their mother/father Baji/Bhai cuz the rest of the family is doing so. And yes I've seen both cases .. Find it disturbing actually :p
just call em all de regular..aunty uncle..no special nicks..myb cause either were not relly close with em or the ones we r sort of close with r in pkstn..i think nicks r used if u all ive tgthr in joint fmly systm or if u live in close prxmty nd ur really close wid eachother.
