Re: ~*what do we look for in a life partner~*
Hmm I see people have highlighted education, and once upon a time I probably would have said that too. But honestly - now I don't think that is all that important, as what does it show really?
Education can come in many forms not just academic, and I'd prefer to be with someone that was worldy, rather than someone that had acheived greatly academically speaking, but that wasn't as worldy.
Over education, I'd look for someone that is ambitious and an achiever, as there many ways to reach the same goal. For some professions you can do a host of courses instead of a degree, so what does it matter if he doesn't have a degree - as long as he is still able provide for me and the family, and will always strive to do the best by us.
Having said that I would choose an 'educated family' over a 'non-educated' one. As I say an individual's education isn't as important to me, but the overall family background is. I can only speak from experience, but I have found that families that are new to 'education' are overall more narrow minded. They grapple with the idea of girls working after marriage, and there is far less equality between the males and females of a family. They are also more likely to follow culture than religion. Whereas in an 'educated' family where generations and generations people have been educated they are more likley to see the difference between culture and religion, and treat boys and girls more equally when it comes to things like working etc. A vast generalisation? Perhaps...but it's based on what I've seen.
Anyway rant over - other things I'd look for are:
Imaan
Honest (not sure how I'd judge this)
Respect for elders
Ambition
Charitable
Humour
Intelligence
Caring
Courteousy
Humble
Good listener
That is quite a lot of things, but I think many of those traits go hand in hand.
