there shouldn't be a huge age difference between a gal and a guy. It shouldnt be more than 6 yrs.

i'd say 24 is the perfect age...i dun think there should be much difference cuz if there is like 5-6 years difference their way of thinking would be totally different which can create problemss..i'd say max 2years gap.

My wife and I have a 7 year age difference.
In my opinion, a guy can get married when he starts university, or at the latest by the time he starts earning. For a girl I'd say between 16-19. Of course one should always make istikhaara before finalizing their decision.

nobody can ever define the perfect age to get married or the perfect age difference… it all depends upon different indivisuals and the connection .. the life of Prophet (PBUH) should be the only tool for us to shape our lives … i have seen age difference from 1 yr to 16 years and trust me Allah knows the best …definatly do an istakhara …

I heard older men who marry younger women treat their wives heck a lot better. Is their any truth to this?

Varies from marriage. I have accounts where husband being older use to beat his wife a lot.
Frist of all young man and older woman marriage is very rare, so usually man is older one in the marriage. Sometimes age disparity is so big that people start to question why that marriage took place. Things that might factor are fertility, women generally begin to lose fertility as they enter their late twenties, while men remain almost their full fertility until much later in life. Sometimes older man seek younger wife to close the generation gap. Most of the girls I have notice say that they want older husband who is their superior, either socially or financially more secure, or to provide critical life guidance.
BTW, If you are talking about appropiate age, than in Pakistan it is 18 for males, 15 for females.
