what do u teach ur toddler when He or She is 18 months old???
Re: what do u teach???
*mostly to correct behavioral problems like teach him/her NOT to throw things, NOT to spit, NOT scratch stc, i suppose! :) *
Re: what do u teach???
abc's and 123s
Re: what do u teach???
^ Yup, also shapes and colors, drawing, etc.
But I try to follow her cues. Show or recite different things, see what interests her, and let her stay focused on that until she's ready for something new.
Re: what do u teach???
ABCs,123s,animal sounds( I love these..!!),body parts,colors,foods etc etc...
These days anything that can be counted is a 'six' and almost most of the fruits etc are 'apples'....:D
Re: what do u teach???
oh yes! animal sounds and food names and body parts! it's amazing what they can distinguish.
Re: what do u teach???
^^I know.
I taught her 'tummy' a few days ago...and made her rub it in circular motions. When she does it, it is hilarious..!!
:D
Re: what do u teach???
lol my favorite is "elbow" and how she turns her arm around to get to it, lol.
And when I ask her where is mama's "nummy nummy" she points to her thighs :p
Re: what do u teach???
^^hehhe....what is 'nummy nummy' btw...??
Re: what do u teach???
I thought E says nummy nummy for yummy and thinks the yummy food ends at mommy's thighs!!!
Sahar.. dont be upset if I got it all wrong :D
Re: what do u teach???
^ yummy yummy. Since about 8-9 months, it's how she's referred to food. At some point I started calling her my "nummy nummy". Since about 10 months, if you asked her "You are Mama's....?" She would respond "nummy nummy." But somewhere along the way I must've pretended to gobble her thighs and said nummy nummy, so though she can identify "thigh" she also points to her thighs when I ask "Where is mama's nummy nummy?" :D
OMG not MY thighs, GTG -- HER thighs :D
Re: what do u teach???
Cursing, hitting, smacking,crying.
Re: what do u teach???
hahahahahaha seee I knew nummy nummy was yummy.. rest of my comment, just ignore it.. sorry ![]()
Re: what do u teach???
Kalma , small suras , Namaz and most important how to say salam to auntie.

Either you're not a parent or you have VERY unrealistic expectations from an 18 month old. You teach by your actions. If you pray in front of them, read quran in front of them, say salaam to each other in front of them, they learn that as regular behavior. When you sit down and do teach, you teach them what everybody already mentioned. You can't sit a toddler down and make the learn a surah or kalma. Toddlers learn from playing, they want things that are shiny and bright and make noise. You teach them colors and animals and what animals say. All along you start ingraining things like God made the animals or God made the color yellow.
I don't know how better to explain it.
Re: what do u teach???
:mirch:
Why do you have to be so judgmental or bitter about it.
I raised three kids this way.
You have your parental style and I have mine. OP asked what you teach to 18 month old toddler and I told her what I thought was right for a Muslim family and what I did.
You can start your comments with " in my opinion " instead of beating me with " Either you’re not a parent or you have VERY unrealistic expectations from an 18 month old."
Please learn to live and let others live the way they want to .
Re: what do u teach???
Here is the best of all tip. Teach whatever but DONT , I repeat DONT try talk to the toddler in funny/cute way by eating/messing up words/alphabets. You will be amazed how quickly they learn if you try to have proper conversation on regular basis
For exmaple
instead of "wat aal u doin" say "what are you doing"
instead of "alley mela munna" say "array mera munna"
always have proper conversation as if they are understanding you (and they do)
U can talk to them about color, alphabets, animals, sounds, music and yes aahmed, there is no harm in adding Kalma and Salam in the list they can learn it easily.
