What do the players think?

Ehsan: If this turns into an India-Pak battle, please delete this thread.

Pakistani cricket fans picture Indian players as bad guys. Indian cricket fans picture Pakistani players as the bad guys. You get the idea. Most of us fail to appreciate the talent and skill of players from the other team. Tendulkar is a better batsman than any pakistani batsman at this time. Similarly Wasim is a better bowler than any indian bowler.

But that aside.

What i’m interested to know is how good are the inter-player relationships. What do they think of players from the other team. Does this ‘i’ll kick your ass’ attitude transcend outside the ground as well? I’m hoping not. Any incidents or articles related to this?

Everything I have read, and also talking to people who know cricketers personally - I have heard that most of the players are freindly to each other. In fact apparently the Indian and Pakistani players are more freindly with each other that with guys from other countries. Not entirely surprising when you consider they speak the same language, same culture and all that stuff. Also a lot of these guys probably know each other from playing counties and stuff. Of course this probably does'nt apply to every perosn and every situation.

I don't think of the Indian team as bad guys.
I think the Indian fans are just bad people.

A few articles did suggest that some (if not ALL) players have friendly relationship with other team members, but that turns into COMPETITION as soon as they enter into cricket field.

I don't agree that Indian fans think of Pakistani fans as bad guys or visa versa. Only when they are playing against eachother that they are considered bad guys!
How? Well few years back Lums did a survey and it showed that Wasim Akram helped increase the sales of Pepsi in India. Similarly Imran was very popular too and not to forget the applause Saeed got when he scored that 192. It's just that the fans from neither side want to loose against their neighbour and so the behavior.

Its kinda like Pakistanis love Sharukh Khan but if he joins Indian army to fight against Pak, you know the result :smokin:

Yeah all Paki Sharukh Khan fans will also join the Indian army?

No they aren't you :)

I know that some of the Pakistani players were really close with their Indian friends. Azhar and Wasim had a good connection. Recently I have heard Dravid is close friends with someone (I forget who) from the Pakistan squad.

It's the fans from both sides that tarnish the name of the players. The players themselfs are good people, and play because they enjoy the game.

I like Rahul Dravid, I think he is great batsman :k:

It makes me bad pakistani guy who like indian cricketer, who plays against pakistan to beat them, so beat the bad pakistani guy, who is a fan of indian cricketer, who is by coincidence a good batsman :konfused:

I know of one player atleast who had a great relationship with Paki players- Ajay Jaedeja. When the teams came for AustralAsia Cup in Sharjah in 1994(?), I along with my bro and uncle went to their hotel.. Luckily there were no security problems.

Basit Ali is my uncle's friend from the old dayz and he said jokingly (in Jadeja's presence) that Jadeja spends more time on the Paki floor then on the Indian! This guy was a very cool, chilled out guy. I'll try n post a picture with him. But newayz I think some players do have a gd relationship with the opposing team players. It was nice to see that live.
