What do Pakistani think of the prospect of Iran gaining a nuclear weapon? Would it be seen as a threat, or would Pakistanis be happy to see another of their neighbours armed with such weapons. Maybe it would be considered as more power to Muslims. The reason I ask is because there was a debate between two Pakistani I know and was wondering what the consensus here is
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
Pakistan is a nuclear power itself, but I think a nuclear iran would be somewhat of a blow to our interests in afghanistan and in the region, as Iran has a tendency to not only be competing in strategic areas in the region, but also it has a history of interfering by promoting one form of sectarianism against what the gulf promoted in Pakistan. But, I think iran is only capable of perhaps a dirty bomb right now since the west has tightened sanctions on the country, while Israel sweetened the deals with Russia to walk away from providing nuclear fuel and components (also military parts). The stuxnet worm that destroyed a lot of centrifuges didn't help matters in Iran either.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
We are not much concerned,No threat for us .
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
I don't think most of pakistanis care about a nuclear Iran, it's not our problem!
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
Okay...
My personal take on this is that Nukes are a terrible invention in the words of many before me "By God this is the end of mans valour!"....
However since America the global Choudhary has Nukes as does Isreal, and just about every other "Big Shot" country either has a nuke or nuclear capability then why not Iran.
It merely helps keep the balance I suppose, if Iran had a Nuke at least it would earn a bit more respect from its Arab nieghbours... it would earn a lot of hatred too but thats nothing new.
As a Pakistani I think my prorities are to feed and clothe the rest of my people rather than worry about things I have no control over.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
It's not good for Pakistan interest. The truth Pakistan wants strategic control of the gulf region where 80% of the worlds oil flows through. I know many people see it as a Muslim bomb. Let's be clear its more of a SUNNI bomb. Hence why Iran is trying extremely hard to create a workable bomb. I therefore would like to see tougher sanctions on Iran to stop them obtaining the bomb. No more countries should have the possibility to have a bomb.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
Our bomb is in Pindi, so others can call it Pothohari bomb .
Ham say dar kay rehna
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
It doesn't matter for Pakistan. Iran isn't a nuclear rival
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
Wow you know the location of the bomb. Tell it to the CIA and get rich! :)

Exporting their revolution into Pakistan is just harmless? I know we shouldn't have picked sides, but we have cast our lot with the soodis and they certainly don't like it.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
Iran can't export their revolution to Pakistan because only a minority of Pakistan's population are not just Shia, but of the same Shia sect as Iran. Iran's revolutionary model is actually offensive to the religious beliefs of the majority Sunni sect in Pakistan.
Similarly, the extremist religious movements trying to overthrow the Pakistani states have beliefs that are offensive to Iran.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
^
Pakistan has a large Shia minority that can cause a huge uproar. It's not in Pakistan interest at all. I don't feel comfortable with those Mullah's having the bomb.

Pakistan's Shia population, despite having the freedom of speech to call for it, have never demanded an Iranian-style state. The Shia religious parties get only a fraction of the Shia vote, given the election outcomes. Most Pakistani Shia vote for traditional political parties.
Given this history, it is impossible to say that Iran poses any threat to Pakistan's political order.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
I believe Iran did try to export the revolution to Pakistan in the eighties, perhaps not as blatantly as Al-Qaeda in Iraq post-2003, but it did happen. Look up the number of shiite madarsas that exploded after the revolution, though it is natural who eventually "won" in Iraq and Pakistan.
Shiites in Pakistan don't mind right now because unlike Iran, Pakistan doesn't completely siden line its shiites as they are in the armed forces and head parties like MQM and PPP among others. But as soon as the bug of sectarianism gets in, bad things happen just as they did in Lebanon before.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
Iranis think why should we not have nuclear weapons when *even those pakistanis *have them lol
Other than that I more or less agree with @mAd_ScIeNtIsT
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
Iran should have it to make more balance of power in the Region OR every single country in this earth should be clean from nuclear weapons.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
If rogue nations such as Israel can have it and as per say it is not threatening to Pakistan, then how come Iranian nukes can be threaten to us? Iran want to have it or not, none of our business!!!
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
govt of Pakistan and most PakistaniS look at Iran as a friendly nation! so I dont think Pakistanis hav any issues with that!they are not a threat to us ... so why worry! ...
even arab countries dont look at Iran nuclear program as a threat!! ... the only countries who made a big deal out of this are US & Isreal
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
Arab countries don't think of iran as a threat? So who are they arming against, since america is the supplier to both them and the creation of 1948 and we know who america favors over all in the region.
Re: What do Pakistanis think of an Irani nuclear weapon?
@ Rangoli....Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar etc. never speak in open against Iran. These useless people speak through the American mouth!
