Ok so these days me n my guy hav been looking for universities for his masters.Hes into computer science & is xtremly passionate abt his feild. He insists that he wants to do MCs from a good university but while talking yesterday we got into a small argument tht what should be the first criteria for searching…
Should we find universities no matter where they located
OR
Should me find a place eg. Australia (that we wana settle in most likely after masters) and then start looking for universities in that country.
I wana know what generally would people do??
p.s: I supported the first option & he supported the second option.
Re: What Do I Choose First Country Or University???
In today's world, it doesn't really matter if you have a 'local' degree when you go and try find a job. A 'good' Canadian programme, for example, would certainly help settling in Australia compared to a mediocre Australian programme.
Re: What Do I Choose First Country Or University???
depends on your definition of good. if it is a world class university then that will come on top.
But being in the country you want to settle down has its advantages not just in landing a job and easier immigration/work-visa but there is something to be said about having a strong alumni network around for future growth and opportunities.
Re: What Do I Choose First Country Or University???
Unless we're talking about a University that is highly regarded and has definitive brand recognition around the globe (e.g. Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge etc.), I'd say choosing the country first is just as important in the context of a family move - especially, if you plan to settle in that country after graduate studies.
