What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Main purpos ov playng a match iz to put ur team on wining stand. 4 runs by a playr in criticl situatn to get ur team succeded r beter than 100 run if ur team lose. Tendulkar always choked whevr he cam acros to critcl sitatin.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Whereas Afridi has passed that with flying colors?

A supposed choker who has an amazing average and who has carried his team for two decades but who can atleast say hey I am consistent I have broken records that actually matter or a choker who has a useless average and has done nothing but cost his team matches at crucial stages. Which one would a normal person have?

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Yeh, tendulkar broke records, on indian pitches.. What a white elephent he iz. Afridi scored everywhere....

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

BTW comparison should not be done among them.
Will you compare Talat hussain ( actor ) with Sultan rahi ???

Both are entertainer in their own league hence both have market . Only difference is different people have different liking and dislikings

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Tendulkar has an average of 48 away from home. Afridi has one of 23.

I can't believe this comparison is even happening.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

This really.

I can understand why people like Afridi too and good for them. That's their opinion. However when they start saying he is xyz and try and make it a fact then that needs to be backed up.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Haha haters didnt had another option so derailed my thread by saying I compared Afridi with Tendulkar

Height of Dumbness!

But I love how people here hate Afridi :rotfl:

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Your title compares them. We didn’t make it up  Still waiting for your stats.

And I don’t hate him. Meri konsi zaati dushmani hai. I’d much prefer we had a more consistent player in our team. Whoever performs consitently deserves it, whoever doesn’t then bye bye. In normal terms its also known as corrupt free justice. Simple concept buddy.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Lol What stats

Is Most wickets by Pakistani spinner over rated

Only All rounder in History to score 7k and take 350 wickets in ODi over rated

Only captain to lead the WC wickets corner for is team over rated lol

Two times MOS in Two T20 WC and in which one he won it for us

Title is saying what these guyas have in common ? does that mean I said I am comparing him with these players

Anyhow have fun

My last post !

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

If Tamim Iqbal scores the most runs for Bangladesh would he be a star compared to others?

A comparison is when you compare different things and come to a conclusion about their differences or similarities. Your title does exactly that.

Now T20's: you seem to be having selective memories. Do you remember Gul's performances? Ajmals? Amirs?

As for the most wickets, again a guy who has played two decades and has an abysmal batting average and less than one wicket per match with atrocious averages against India, England, Aus, S.Africa and Sri Lanka telling me he has most wickets isn't something to be proud of. How is scoring 22 a match and conceding 50 runs for 0.6 wickets every match good? Please, tell me!

In which world does he merit a place in our side? Should we recall Farhat too? And Malik? As their supporters will rightly say hey we have higher averages than him hence more consistency so why is he in the team and we are not?

This. Right there is the problem with us. We have mediocrity all over Pakistan when it comes to the international stage. We love mediocre players, mediocre politicians and bingo we get the results that we deserve.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Afridi IMO actually falls on both sides of the fence :D ...

People who criticize Afridi have a point too, for 370 wickets Afridi has played 369 ODIs (but bowled in 343 ODIs) that is still 1.07 wickets per match. For 7450 runs he has played 342 innings that is 21.78 runs per inning (if you don't count the "not out" factor).

The reason people "love" Afridi is because they love his aggression in batting, they want to see batsmen taking on all kinds of bowlers i.e. spinners, pacers etc. regardless of situation, they like to see boundaries regardless of situation the team is in... pure entertainment :D

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

^ But how often does he do that? There. All arguments just end there.

People love Afridi because he is a brand. He wouldn't have had even quarter of fans that he has today if he wasn't for his silky hair and good looks. His image and persona sells.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

For me, 80s was the golden period of cricket. Those of us who were fortunate enough to watch the likes of Viv (sheer aura and brutal strokeplay), Greenidge, Zaheer, Imran, Miandad, Marshall, Gavaskar, Hadlee etc. in their prime would not even dare suggest Afridi is a legend of the game. He is a utility player, a handy player in limited overs cricket, nothing more nothing less....a useful bowler and an inconsistent, erratic batsman prone to brainless shot selection. Most of the Afridi fanboys perhaps started watching cricket much later; in the late 90s or even early 2000s

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Statistics almost reflects what we believe as well.... almost every 10th game, more accurately every 11.9 games.

EDIT: He has 31 MoM awards.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Which is my point. I believe Imran Nazir does that as well, so does Shahzaib Hassan. Difference is they have been booted out and rightly.

An innings after 12 games and very poor bowling is abysmal for a top tier playing test nation when we have so many newbies rotting away in Domestic.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

Brian Lara had 30 MoM awards in 299 matches, which is almost 10 matches for a MoM award :), Inzamam had 24 MoM in 378 matches :)

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

And what were their averages? Can you look at their careers and go yes they were consistent hence deserved their place? Usually when I bring this up the response is but oh we weren’t comparing Afridi to them

Tomorrow if Tamim Iqbal plays 400 games for Bangladesh and gets 40 MOM’s what will that say

A person deserves his place in the team if he is consistent. That IS and SHOULD be the rule. There is a very easy way to prove me wrong, show everyone the evidence he has been consistent and this debate will be over very quickly. It really is that simple.

Has he done that? Be honest. You’re a quality poster so think about it.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

^ Don't get me wrong, I am not on Afridi's bandwagon, he is not what we all wanted him to be but he is not so bad too. Being "consistent" is a difficult thing to prove for any player. Player of Tendulkar's caliber scored below 10 in 132 matches out of 457 matches, 57 scores of 10-20. However, if you want to call Afridi "unreliable" then I will agree with you wholeheartedly. He is an all rounder, he sometimes wins matches based on batting (18 times) and sometimes on bowling (8 times?) and sometimes on both (5 times??). So in 369 matches he helped team win a match 31 times by a "match winning performance" should be applauded, credit where due.

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

I still don’t agree but fair enough, you have atleast backed your opinion up with some solid numbers. Ironically I think he was a very good captain and if he is made Captain I’d agree with it. A mad opinion considering my stance on him I know

Re: What do Afridi, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Jayasuria, KP have in common??

As I mentioned earlier , the debate it self is not correct from beginning. Can you convince a fan of Sultan rahi or Rajni kant that Richerd Burton is better actor . Or a fan of Shehzad roy that Mehdi hassan is a better singer. You simply can't ......

On serious note compare his MOM

afg 1
ban 4
aus 1
can 1
eng 1
ind 2
ken 1
neth 1
NZ 3
SA 2
SL 8
WI 2
ZIM 4

Hence top 5 sides AUS+SA+Eng+Ind+WI = 8

remaining 23 against lower sides Afg ( 1 ) , Ban (4), can(1) , Ken (1) , NETH Land ( 1 ) , NZ ( 3 ) , SL ( 8) , ZIM (4) speaks about reality of his MOM awards.

IMO , he was given to much undue chance as a batter hence he destroy mentality of our domestic batters. They make him heor of their own hence destroy their own temperament.

He was below avg. bowler who developed him self as good bowler with passage of time who can hit some sixes here and there.

This all considering ODI . I dont consider him worth talking about in test cricket.
