What did you wear on your baby shower?

Hi Ladies,
I’m almost 5 months pregnant now and my friend has already started planning a baby shower for me. The problem is I can no longer fit into any of my clothes and can’t get anyone to bring new clothes for me from Pak so I have to order online or buy western clothes from here. I wanted to get some ideas on what to wear to my baby shower…desi /western…what did you wear on yours?

Two of my friends recently had a baby shower and they both wore dresses with the empire waist.. they looked adorable.

^That's a good option but I can't seem to find anything nice at Motherhood shop...:( Are there any other maternity shops??

Why don't you check out Thyme? You are quite petite, why don't you consider just buying regular clothes, but a size up?

CA.. I know one of them got the dress from JCPenney Maternity section.. the other one just bought a regular dress that fit her bump the best :D

Mehnaz, I can fit better into regular clothes for now but I’m thinking what if I get really big by month 7-8…:bummer:…I haven’t seen Thyme in the US. Let me check online.

In the baby showers we have here in our group we do a "goad bharai" rasm too which is kind of a desi rasam so we all dress up in heavy desi clothes and lots of jewelry. I wore desi clothes too at mine. I already had loose desi clothes made from pakistan to wear at parties anyways. You can wear western maternity clothes . There are some cute ones around.

My shower was the day before Eid. I only bought maternity tops for these two events; the rest of pregnancy I was able to manage with my own wardrobe. I had been doing desi clothes for the rest of my pregnancy, so I figured I'd do something different. I ordered three tops from Motherhood Maternity (one for Eid, one for the shower, and one cuz it was on sale). The one on sale ended up being the prettiest! That's what I wore to the shower!

H&M has a maternity section as well.

Check online. I also found those kinds of dresses at Target, but that was in the summer.

Try department stores for some empire waist dresses. For my shower, the desi one, i wore a sari with a bigger blouse from Devon. For the shower at hub's work, i wore a maternity dress that i got on sale from Younkers (carsons pierre scott in Chicago). They had nice maternity stuff on sale at their bigger store, i got a lot of items for 5 bucks a piece (no joke).

I would wear a saree and dress up to the nines.

Or a gora-style dress. :blush:

eatern11, there won't be a godh bharai rasm in my baby shower but I DO want to dress up..:-)

Sahar, that's great you didn't have to purchase a lot of clothes...did you gain most of the weight in the later months?? my weight gain is constant so I'm needing a lot more clothes coz I couldn't fit into most stuff beginning week 13!! :o

Ira, wwow thanks...there's a carsons dept store nearby I'll check it out. Do you mind telling me where you buy your sarees from? I really like all of the ones I've seen on you..they suit you so well!

Thanks Mehnaz, I'll check H&M...though I know the one nearby doesn't have a maternity section.

CA, thanks so much. Most of my saris are from India, if not all and they were all brought from india through friends etc.

Oh, CA I wasn't fitting into all my old clothes. Within the first 8 weeks, I couldn't wear my pants (eventho I had lost weight!). Pants in particular I was having trouble with and I got a few maternity pants and those Bella bands early on. But I did not get any maternity tops, other than the ones I mentioned. I made due by buying mediums rather than smalls and wearing kurtis and other looser styles as needed.

I did wear saris mostly to desi formal events by the end of the pregnancy. I'm lucky to have mom and mil nearby. MIL's blouses were actually most comfy during pregnancy, so I would borrow her saris :D. I was able to wear some of mine, but I had to keep the bottom hooks opened, so no chiffon saris ( :D ) and very careful pinning!

^ Sahar, that’s why i suggested for CA to buy a larger size (in regular clothes) than she normally wears.

After you have the baby, you will lose a ton of weight … but there will be a point where you no longer fit into your maternity pants (cause they are too lose) but you also don’t fit into your normal trousers/tops (cause they are too small). You will need some in-between clothes … at least that is how it was for me for about the first year. But everybody has a different body :clown: …

If you wear a saree, try the rajesthani style where the palu goes over shoulder and hangs at the front of the body. Depending on the print of the palu, you can spread it like a fan over the front of the stomach. Then wear a chain around it (if you want) like they do in the Zee dramas (that’s where i got my inspiration :hehe: ). It’ll look nice.

I decked up for mine in desi wear....A line shirt with pants...with matching accessories and what not...

Keep it desi I think...its much more colorful that way....:)
