what could be the reason :(

i needed backup of all the important files and folders on my laptop so i worked on a small network between my lappy and PC..it was working fine but… when i shared a folder containing docs and pdfs and tried to copy that folder to the PC the whole (shared files/folders) folder went non-responsive. I restarted the PC but same problem again. though i copied that folder somehow ( making zif folder in laptop’s shared folder and using task manager on the PC)

but i really want to know the reason behind this problem…:bummer:

Re: what could be the reason :frowning:

is the network a wireless network via a router? ie a home network ? if so connections could be an issue.

Re: what could be the reason :frowning:

You shared the folder on the laptop, and tried to access it from the PC?
-Were you able to see the content of the shared folder?
-Try copying a single (small) file and see if it works
-If you can’t access the content check the following
–Make sure your laptop firewall is disabled (or has the right access opened)
–Make sure you have permissions for the account that you are using (you can use the same account name. e.g. InnocentSmile on both computers)

When you say it was working, what do you mean?

Re: what could be the reason :frowning:

Thank you replying

yup i tried to access it from PC.
yes content was visible in shared folder.

**I shared 2 or 3 folders (before this problematic folder) and i was able to move them to local drive of the PC without any difficulty.

** but when i shared this folder (containing documents and PDFs) i wasn’t able to open, move or copy it on PC. i.e when i clicked the folder i got “Not responding error”. This “not responding” error was received only on the PC’s shared folder, (no error on laptop).

Re: what could be the reason :frowning:

So go back in the Properties of that folder, unshare it, click OK and come out. Then go back in and share it again.
If you are in Windows 7 use the Advanced Sharing button for more control. Make sure you give the proper access permissions to the right user.
