What could be the problem?

First of all, I’d ask for you all to go easy on me. I’m not comfortable with Googling (not that I’ve found useful information!) and I do intend to speak to a doctor…I just want to know if anyone had the same experience I did.

About six months ago, my period was late by 7 days and in that duration I took two home pregnancy tests that were negative. After day 7 I got what I thought was my period but instead it was spotting/brownish discharge that had the same duration as a normal period of 6-7 days. I went to my doctor and we did a blood test for pregnancy but it was negative. He said to wait and see if it continued next month we could look into it further.

I went to a gyno as well and they did blood tests, pap smear, ultrasound etc and the results were normal.

Exactly a month later I got a normal period and it’s been normal ever since until now

I was supposed to get it last wednesday but I didnt. On Sunday I started spotting and since then I have been having spotting/brown discharge. I’m not pregnant.

I did ask my doctor but he dismissed it as part of my weight problem. Now, the thing is that I have been overweight all my life and it has never affected my period. My weight has been steady and consistent for years and I have never taken birht control pills or any other form of birth control/medicine…so I don’t know how it can suddenly be affected but my Dr said “there’s a first time for everything.”

Can extra weight just suddenly affect periods or should I be more insistent with my doctor? and FYI I already know I should lose weight…and I’m working on it…but any advice aside from that I would really appreciate.

Re: What could be the problem?

Periods have a wonderful way of playing with our thoughts and emotions, i have a friend who is due to go in for her IVF and was told to come to the clinic on day 2 of her period, she is late by 10 days (today) not pregnant, no period (and she has never had a problem before, always been regular), so i agree with your Doc there is a first time for everything.

as far as the weight issue is concerned, he is right again, I dont have any experience with periods and weight, but certainly anyone trying for a baby, the first thing doc says is to lose the weight.

Re: What could be the problem?

Sometimes stress, sometimes just randomness can affect your period. I wouldn't worry unless it's a continuous problem and not sporadic.
