ok so I have heard a lot about colicy baby especially on GS.. i was just wondering what causes it? how do you tell it’s colic? Is there anything a first time parent can do to avoid that for a new born baby? Does colic mean gassy and crying baby or what?

I'm not sure what exactly causes colic, but since we had experienced lots of colicky babies in the family my mom was very strict about my diet, I was practically only eating roti and chicken/mutton salan or qeema/koftay. no rice, no veggies or daals that cause gas and was even strict about eating fried food. I know its extreme but my baby Allah ka shukar didn't get colic. I became relaxed about my diet after 40 days
aww my baby was v colicky its just gas trapped in tumy that causes pain it starts from 3rd week mostly whn my baby had 1st time colic i even didnt know wht happened to her she cried whole night n in the morning after getting fed up i called my mum n she told me i gave colic drops which helped immeditely otherwise i used to gave her gripe water n rgularly burp her during her feeds like after every 1 ounce i used to burp her massage her tummy moving her legs in cycling position it really helped me
should you start giving them gripe water even before they get gassy? My mom brought some from Pakistan so probably we should just start our baby on that anyway.. what do you say?
many docs recommend waiting unless it’s necessary, so your baby’s body learns to handle its diet. they don’t want them dependent on stuff.
Colic by definition has an unknown cause:
"Colic is often defined as crying more than three hours a day, three days a week for more than three weeks in an otherwise well-fed, healthy baby. What is most important for the diagnosis is sustained crying in an otherwise healthy baby for a regular period of the day lasting for several weeks. "
^good to know.. I will have to post this on refrigerator!!
not that I am expecting a crying baby but I have read aabout that so much on GS that I am afraid it will be soemthing that I will know about but not know how to avoid it or deal with it.
^ i don't know how true that is... i know a few exclusively breastfed babies who've been colicky. Maybe they say that because formula can be harder to digest for *some *babies vs breastmilk?
the thought of having a baby with colic was my number one nightmare when i was pregnant but Alhamdulillah he doesn't have it. i've witnessed the sheer trauma parents go through when their babies cry night after night for hours at a time, not to mention the poor inconsolable babies themselves. my cousin is going through that with her baby just now and she's so stressed out but there's no known cause and no cure. you just have to let them cry it out and wait for them to gradually outgrow it. colic drops help some babies, they do nothing for others.
