"tail dekho tail ki dhaar dekho" just got a new meaning
im not sure what caste i am. the only possible answers i have are either my surname uqaili or my ethnicity sindhi. apart from that im ur average pakistani. i guess.
my opinion, its fun to belong to castes as long as theres no highs or lows. and i do not believe syeds are closer to God than any other muslim just because they're direct descendants of the holy prophet (PBUH).
Caste system is an ancient concept derived from Aryan mentality, in the South Asian sub-continent. It should only serve as a matter of identity for a group of people, if at all. Marriage-wise and otherwise this whole caste idea should be disregarded as it doesn't make much sense logically. It is an ancient, outmoded, outdated concept, and certainly Islam doesn't advocate it. In Islam all muslims are equal regardless of race, ethnicity, color, etc. :)
all the problems in south asia can ultimately traced to caste systm
which is introduced or imposed by cental asian tribes. the effect is still there.

Great Combination :D
rajput pathan meo (no not the gora ones) ![]()
Nothing wrong with castes, just like we like to think of ourselves as Humans, Muslims etc. Nor is it wrong for you to be proud of who you are, however when we start comparing who is better, higher etc., then the problems begin. I can tell you the Rajputs have a miltary background but does that make them less scholarly? I think not. Just like Jatts may have been agrarian doesn't mean that they are not capable of joining the military.
I think many Pakistanis are ashamed of talking about their true background so they either ignore the caste issue or make up blatant lies. The fact remains that most Pakistanis are descended from Hindu/Buddhist tribes and thus we still share that part of history with them. Acknowleging that past doesn't make you any less of a Muslim but rather allows you to accept the reality of your background.
I believe someone mentioned Mughals as a "caste" and I do believe that is a popular misconception. What exactly is a Mughal? It is not a tribe, nor is it an occupation. Mughals or those who claim to be Mughals are decendants of the Turkish, Central Asians who came to the Subcontinent and intermarried with Muslim converts. For example Akbar married into the Rajputs and his progeny became to be classified as "Mughals." Thus, it can be said that Mughals are a recent classification not rooted in tribalism, or shared history but rather through the interactions of Muslim settlers and converts.
I am Awan on my dad's side and Rajput on my mom's side. Neither proud nor not proud of my background. I am glad though that I know of my heritage and lineage because it gives me a sense of identity, to whatever extent. I agree with Rajput Fury in that it's not a bad idea to know one's "caste" so to speak. The insecurity sets in when one starts thinking him/herself superior or inferior due to this so-called caste status.

chee dude its not for real, most of these Syed's aren't even direct or closely related, just like people who adapt the Khan name so do folks adapt the last name for its status.
Heck i'm a syed but i don't really give a shyte about it, reason being that if these guys claim that they are "closer to god" should they drop all this b.s. and start acting like humanitarian muslims rather than judge people by caste.
Khair for the sake of this thread my ancestry from what I tried to figure out was from Iran then Afghanistan then India then Pakistan so somewhere along the line its Muhajir, clan of the masses Yousaf Zai. I'm confused about it myself, ah who knows...Muslim in the end, not like it really matters when i'm up there.
Me-----> Syed!
caste is called Arain, also said as Rai...
in english it would be landmasters( or was it landlords, I am not shure). or something like that.... :)
I came to know that my great great great grandparents where from Arab. ( maybe that explains my quriousity for that land, and the hidden beauty)
as far as it goes for Judging people for their castle, I think we should not do that.
but it is still interesting to know who has wich kind of background, that is not bad to know, either to tell.... pataa chalta haye kissie ki background kya haye, un ke dada pardada kya they, kis zaat se taaluk rakhte the...
and yes, like most of the guppies said here,
at the end we are Humans, and muslims.... :)

its said that castes were made for recognition...not creed or esteem.
as long as we dont involve status or discrimination theres nothing about it being garbage

Fraudz and Rvizk. Moses was a Hebrew slave (ethnically Hebrews are Arab Jews). He was put on a little floating device (like a little basket) by his cruel Mama in the Lower Nile and he floated into the palace of Pharaoh. He grew up to be a good Shepherd but a bad Slave. He argued with his masters to let his people go. In the end he died.

the arabs and jews are cousins, since they had the same father but different mothers. but arabs are not jews since by 'jewish law' your mother should be jewish. i dont think there is a difference between hebrew and jews.
I always thought we as muslim don't have a caste (unlike Hindu's), we're only muslim and then Pakistani...
I don't get this whole issue either.. like a few others..
Ok, I am Qureshi.. Does that make me special or give me something extra that others don't have?
