What can I do with my savings?

So next year it could be my wedding around june july time. I am eldest is a set of girls and would like to help out my father with my own wedding so its not too much of a burden on him

Wedding will be in Pakistan. I am not one for massive weddings either, just a nice function with some good food and good dress etc is enough.
I have 3 thousand pounds in savings, how far will this get me?

I was thinking it could probably get me my jahez sorted, dress jewellery and makeup and 1 gold set possibly. But I don’t anything about weddings, or gold or what’s included in jahez and what not and what other things I could help out with.

Any help? I’m trying to make a list and work it all out for next year.

Re: What can I do with my savings?

When you say jehaiz do you mean furniture, electronics etc? If so don't know how far the 3000 pounds will take you but it could be a good contribution. Will you be staying in Pakistan or coming back to the UK? If Pakistan, then the furniture etc could be bought cheaper vs the UK. Gold is quite expensive.

i think...keep it simple...save your money for 'rainy days' after getting married.

Re: What can I do with my savings?

Please keep in mind that if you wish to buy real gold...even the smallest chain set will cost you about £2000.

I wanted to buy minimal gold and got 2 bangles (not karras but thin bangles)+ two chain necklace sets..with earrings no longer than 3cm * width 1.5cm..and it cost me a total of £4400! I initially had £2000 in mind for gold budget.

For the bridal dress, I minimize the cost by buying an extremely heavy formal dressthat came with a plain chiffon dupatta for a price of £500 and made an additional order for a bridal duppatta with only one thick border and 3 thin borders for a cost of £240. So a total of £740 instead of the £2600 I initially wanted to spend on my dream dress!

For bridal jewellery, you are looking at around £350 minimum for artificial and around £800 if you go for the designer artificial (Kyles in London or Nadia Chottani in Pakistan)

For bridal makeup in Pakistan, an average of £150-200 is charged.

For my personal jahez, that is my formals and casual dresses (eastern and eastern) ,shoes ,bags, beddings, straighter / dryer..I spent almost £3500. It requires a lot of work to find the cheaper items yet with quality. I have shopped in sales and discounted shop shelves only! My budget was £200 a month ,maximum, for the past 15 months...but I bought almost every item I currently have in my room as I will be moving out of my parents home and currently I am sharing my stuff with my sister. I will be paying rent and bills along with my husband after marriage so I chose to get all my personal shopping sorted now which means I will massively sacrifice the temptation of shopping after marriage (well I have more than enough new stuff to look for now J .)

For the remaining 3 months, since my shopping is all done, I am saving £250 a month for rainy days plus any cash gift I get goes straight into my savings pot!

Re: What can I do with my savings?

I think £2000 would be good for a gold set, especially if you take the time to buy it in Pakistan. A couple years ago I was looking at a 5 tola set (really nothing special) and that cost more than 3k here, but your money would stretch further in Pakistan because they charge less for the labour part of making the jewellery and they typically sell 18 carat, whereas most UK Asian shops sell 22 carat.
